Ten Hag outlines Man United mission statement in warning to players

ew Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned his players that he will not accept anything but “giving their best every day” as he looks to take the club back to the top of English football.

Ten Hag was at Selhurst Park on Sunday as United signed off on a miserable season with a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

It was another lifeless display by a team desperate for the season to end, with David de Gea after the game saying “the best thing about this season is that it has ended.”

Ten Hag, who comes to Old Trafford after winning three Eredivisie titles with Ajax, will be tasked with turning United back into title contenders.

“I want to build and construct a team who are battling for each other, who are unified and who will get results,” Ten Hag told the club’s official website.

“Also we are playing in the Theatre of Dreams. We want to entertain. But in the end, the intention is to play fantastic football. If we can’t play fantastic football, we still have to win.”

United’s season has been littered with unhappy players and disappointing performances, and Ten Hag is clean to give his squad a clean slate but will not tolerate dropped standards.

“I have high expectations from myself and that is also what I demand from my squad,” he continued.

“They have to co-operate together and they have to give every day their best. And I would say, for me, good is not good enough. We have to do better.”
