Thiago Mendes and his family have been subjected to death threats following his tackle which left Neymar with an ankle injury.
Initial fears were that Neymar has suffered a broken ankle during PSG’s 1-0 defeat to Mendes’s Lyon.
Scans have since determined that Neymar has only sustained a sprain, and could even be back before Ligue 1’s winter break.
But that has not helped Mendes – who received a red card – escape a barrage of abuse, including worrying threats to the safety of him and his family.
Mendes’s wife, Kelly, recited one of the many threats to GFFN , which read: “For your boyfriend’s actions, if anything happens to Neymar, you will pay with your life. You and your family, one by one.”
Kelly also explained how she had called in police to help assist with the threats, with all information being passed over to investigating officials.
Comments from Neymar’s father are unlikely to have done much to calm the furore, after he slammed officials for not protecting his son.
“F***… how much longer?” Neymar Snr wrote on Instagram. “We have spoken about this so much, we have so underlined the excess of violence.
“We are not taking the necessary measures throughout the entire match, during which Neymar was the victim of a dozen fouls, always violent ones.
“This encourages these type of players and attitudes.”
It appears Neymar could well be back in action sooner rather than later, though.
He updated fans on his Instagram account on Monday, stating his injury “could have been worse”.
And PSG boss Thomas Tuchel suggested the 28-year-old could even be involved in Sunday’s clash against Lille.
Speaking ahead of PSG’s fixture vs Lorient, which takes place on Wednesday, Tuchel said: “It’s not impossible to see Neymar again before the winter break. Maybe against Lille, we hope.
“We’ll do everything for Lille. I can’t say yes or no. We must wait to see the results of the last exams tomorrow.”
