Thiago Silva injury: Chelsea star limps off vs Spurs

The veteran centre-back appeared to pull his hamstring when stretching for the ball in the first half.

Silva immediately signalled to the bench that he was in trouble, and was replaced by Andreas Christensen.

The fact that Silva managed to leave the pitch without the aid of a stretcher will be a cause for optimism for Tuchel. He was also seen walking to the changing room unaided for check-ups with Chelsea’s medical staff.

But he will be a major doubt for Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United after starting each of Tuchel’s three games in charge since the German succeeded Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

With Kurt Zouma missing the game against Spurs after pulling up during training on Wednesday, it could leave Chelsea short of defensive options for the weekend.

If Tuchel insists on sticking with his three-man back line, he will have to hope Zouma makes a rapid recovery.
