Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was hauled off against Manchester United on Thursday night despite Mikel Arteta’s side trailing 3-2 at Old Trafford, which led to a brutal assessment by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry at full time.

A Cristiano Ronaldo penalty handed Arsenal their second successive away defeat in the Premier League, and club captain Aubameyang was substituted with 11 minutes to play after failing to make an impact.

The Gabonese international appears to be lacking something and his desire seems to have faded at Arsenal, with some fans claiming that he is ‘done’ at the club.

Following Henry’s assessment after their 3-2 defeat to United, it may be better for Arsenal to move Aubameyang on and bring in a new striker.

After witnessing Arsenal’s supposed star-striker get taken off when Arteta’s side were in need of a goal, Henry said: “Aubameyang is your captain. He is your goal scorer. You put him as your captain. 15 minutes to go, you’re losing 3-2 and you take him off.

“3-2 away from home, you need a goal and you take your captain, your symbol, off the field. You know he can score you goals so something is not right there.”

Aubameyang also made Arsenal fans furious after the match, as the player liked Ronaldo’s celebratory Instagram post after their win over the Gunners, and supporters are convinced that his heart is no longer beating at the Emirates.

Arsenal’s striker situation isn’t a comfortable one, as both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah see their current deals expire at the end of the season, with both expected to leave the club for free, which leaves just Aubameyang and Florian Balogun.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has seen a dip in form

It may be better for Arsenal to just cash in on Aubameyang while they can, with the striker seemingly losing interest in wearing the famous Gunners shirt.

Passion and desire is something that Lazazette doesn’t lack, as seen with his last-minute equaliser against Crystal Palace earlier in the season, and it could be time for Arteta to prioritise the Frenchman.

If Aubameyang’s interests are elsewhere, Arteta should give Lacazette the vote of confidence, and convince him to stay, offering a more consistent starting role.

Even if Arteta does this before Aubameyang potentially leaves the club, it’ll give the Gunners boss an indication as to whether the Gabonese forward is willing to fight for his place or not.

If Aubameyang continues to appear uninterested then it’s better off parting company and using the wage bill on someone that is more committed to the high standards that Arteta is trying to impose on his dressing room.

Aubameyang may have four Premier League goals this season, and the striker is always capable of getting on the score sheet, but there has been a clear drop off in form, desire and commitment from the forward and Arteta must resolve it one way or another.
