Thomas Tuchel makes tactics vow to Chelsea fans: ‘We play for scoring’

homas Tuchel has promised Chelsea fans his side will play “brave”, attacking football under his management.

Tuchel has seen success in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and France with Paris Saint-Germain and has been made aware that the Chelsea hierarchy expect success this season.

The 47-year-old has been tasked with getting the best out of Chelsea’s expensive summer recruits, with compatriots Timo Werner and Kai Havertz having struggled since their big money moves to west London last year. With such an array of stars, Tuchel has vowed that his side will play on the front foot.

“I hope we will attack and play brave football,” he told BT Sport. “We play for scoring and for creating chances. At the same time when I think about Chelsea football, it is an intense game, teams with winning mentality who can also defend hard and strong, compact and solid as a group.

“We want to create this. We see a lot of talent we have good mix of experience, personality and young players. We want to encourage them to play attacking style and to be active in all moments of the game.”

Tuchel has had just one evening training session with his players before taking his seat in the dugout at Stamford Bridge for his first game after a whirlwind few days.

“You cannot imagine the last 48 hours, 72 hours, it’s all a bit surreal,” said Tuchel. “But we are here now and it is amazing. It was crazy.

“We will see if I got any message across in training! I was happy to be on the pitch with them as they feel comfortable, we took the possibility to train. There is nothing to be afraid of and we encouraged the guys to do their best today.”
