Romelu Lukaku has reportedly informed Inter that he wants to leave the club this summer to be allowed to re-join Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel has now spoken on the situation
Tuchel comments on Zouma’s Chelsea future amid West Ham links
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has addressed reports that the club are close to agreeing a deal to re-sign striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter.
The Belgian international left Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis in 2014 to join Everton and the club were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign him back in 2017, when he instead opted to join Manchester United.
The Blues have now identified him as their number one striker target this summer as Tuchel hopes to sign a new number nine after Olivier Giroud joined Milan and with Tammy Abraham likely to depart.
Inter are in financial difficulties despite landing their first Serie A title in 11 years last season but would only be prepared to part with their star should an astronomical offer arrive.

It is claimed that Chelsea are willing to pay a British club record transfer of £110million to land Lukaku – a fee which would eclipse that which Manchester City are set to pay to secure the arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
Reports on Wednesday from The Athletic have suggested that Lukaku has now informed the Italian champions that he wants to be allowed to leave and return to Stamford Bridge.
It is claimed that the Belgian has become disillusioned with the club’s sporting project, following the sale of Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain and the departure of boss Antonio Conte, who has been replaced by Simone Inzaghi.
Inter would find the exit of their star player hard to sell to their demanding fanbase and it is suggested that they want Lukaku to publicly state his intentions to leave before sanctioning a deal.
Unsurprisingly, Tuchel was quizzed on the subject of the striker’s future following his side’s friendly against Tottenham on Wednesday evening.

When asked on Lukaku, the German boss responded: “I won’t talk about players who are not in my squad. Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player, he is not in my squad he is in Inter.”
When he was pressed on Lukaku’s reported desire to join the Blues, Tuchel added: “Everyone wants to join my squad. I can imagine a lot of players want to come and join.”
The club have been evaluating the signing of a new central striker all summer with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland heavily linked, alongside suggestions of an audacious move for Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski.
These attempts did not progress into any official bids, with Haaland’s reported release clause of €75million not due to kick in until next summer – meaning his valuation this year priced him out of a transfer.
Lukaku represented Chelsea 15 times during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, having joined from Anderlecht, but did not score a goal for the club.
