Tiger Woods has sent his congratulations to Team USA after they wrote themselves into the history books with a record-breaking 19-9 win over Europe at Whistling Straits.

The Americans dominated the event from start to finish, and capped it off with another sensational showing in the day three singles to ensure they regained the title they lost in 2018 by a record-breaking margin.

Whilst golfing icon Woods was not able to be there, the 82-time PGA Tour winner has still publicly congratulated his fellow countrymen for their remarkable achievement.

The 15-time major winner tweeted: “A dominant performance by @RyderCupUSA! I can’t wait to see and celebrate with all of you! Congrats to all the players, Vice Captains and of course Captain @stevestricker.”

The 2019 Masters champion was not involved at Whistling Straits as he continues to recover from injuries he sustained in a horrific car accident in Los Angeles this February.

Woods was in the area after hosting the annual Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club the day prior to his crash, but was not playing in that event due to ongoing back problems.

Since the accident, the 15-time major champion has been in rehabilitation after undergoing extensive surgery on his right leg after suffering ‘open fractures affecting the upper and lower of the tibia and fibula bones’.

Despite Woods not being able to make it to Wisconsin to join the US team for this year’s event, Olympic champion and US star Xander Schuaffele revealed that the 45-year-old provided a special message for the eventual winners going into the tournament.

Schauffele said: “We had a nice message from Tiger last night. I’m not going to reveal what it said but Pat and I knew and we referred to it a few times today. We knew what we needed to do.

“We knew he was fist-pumping from the couch. Whether he is on crutches or not, he’s as fired up as any back at home so it’s nice to have his support.”

As well as this, the Olympic gold medalist’s team-mate Patrick Cantlay admitted he visited Woods’ house prior to his trip to Whistling Straits.

He commented: “I saw him last week at home, and just picked his brain on the Ryder Cup and applied some of that here today.”
