US Team captain Steve Stricker likened Team Europe’s Tommy Fleetwood to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers ahead of the Ryder Cup.
Tommy Fleetwood is a doppelganger for NFL star Aaron Rodgers, according to US captain Steve Stricker.
Team Europe wore the green and gold of the Green Bay Packers at Whistling Straits on Wednesday to win over local Wisconsin fans.
Long-haired Fleetwood wore a green beanie – and social media users immediately saw his resemblance to the Packers quarterback.
Stricker said: “Someone else said that in our team room, too, that Aaron Rodgers and Tommy Fleetwood look a lot alike all of a sudden.
“Yeah, they probably both wish they had each other’s game on the football field and Aaron I’m sure wishes he had Tommy’s game on the course, but they do look a lot alike.”
Rodgers threw four touchdown passes in the Packers’ home win over Detroit at Lambeau Field on Monday night – and Fleetwood won his four matches paired with Francesco Molinari in their Moliwood team on his debut in 2018.
Stricker is from Wisconsin and he recognised the smart PR move by his opposite number Padraig Harrington in appealing to local fans.
No European supporters are allowed to travel across the Atlantic because of Covid restrictions.
And Stricker said: “That’s smart on their part. Why wouldn’t you when you come over to foreign soil try to win some fans over, right?

“We do the same thing when we go over there, and I’m sure they realise that we are on U.S. soil, and with the travel restrictions and all that, they’re trying to roundup as many fans as they can. We’d be doing the same thing over there.
“Cheeseheads are a staple here, right? You know that. So that’s cool to see. I saw, I think, Fleetwood on TV wearing a green and gold hat, so I thought they were kind of going down the Packer route, as well.
“So good on them and interesting to see, but we’d be doing the same thing, I think, and yeah, trying to get some fans.”
