Tottenham 0-2 Leicester: Vardy on target as Foxes go second

Just as a tepid first-half looked destined to end goalless, Serge Aurier gifted the visitors the chance to take the lead with a needless barge on Wesley Fofana and Vardy ruthlessly converted the VAR-awarded spot-kick.

Jose Mourinho reacted by sending on Gareth Bale for Tanguy Ndombele at the break but within minutes Leicester looked to have doubled their lead as James Maddison fired home, only for the effort to be chalked off for a marginal offside.

Spurs then lost Giovani Lo Celso to what appeared to be a hamstring injury and their misery was compounded when Alderweireld inadvertently guided a Vardy header past his own goalkeeper.

Heung-min Son came closest to bringing Spurs back into the game, denied from close range by a superb Kasper Schmeichel save after Alderweireld’s near post flick, whilst at the other end Youri Tielemans missed an excellent chance to add some gloss to the scoreline, firing over the bar.
