Dan Kilpatrick was at Villa Park to assess the Spurs players…
Had little more than a couple of routine saves to make but commanded his area well and came for crosses.
Made an important late block to deny Ollie Watkins’s goal-bound effort. Most of Villa’s threat came down his flank and it was unclear if he was instructed to tuck inside or naturally drifted towards the centre.
Used his pace to cover well and made some important challenges. Caught the wrong side once towards the end, which nearly proved costly.
In the right place to clear Trezeguet’s shot from danger during a good Villa spell and looked composed on his first appearance since January.
Offered plenty of pace and thrust down the left flank, even if his end product was scatty. Forced off before the hour after a heavy challenge.
Less composed than normal and looks to be feeling the effects of a long season. Still, he was vital to Spurs as a defensive shield and forced a late save from Emiliano Martinez.
Battled superbly in the build-up to Kane winning the penalty but was often loose with the ball and looked tired in the second half. A rest over the international break will surely do him good.
Star man. Easy to see why Mourinho loves him after an excellent display offensively and defensively. Ran tirelessly, with and without the ball and got a superb assist for Vinicius.
Played his part in the first goal with a neat one-two with Lucas before winning and dispatching a penalty. Decisive.
Initially did well at picking holes in Villa but drifted inside a little too often, crowding the centre and leaving the right flank open. Tired quickly in the second half and was hooked.
His tap-in was about his only memorable touch of the game. A passenger, really, but worked hard, occupied defenders and made the difference.
Ben Davies (Reguilon 57’) 6
Made a couple of important interventions and tried to get forward when possible.
Steven Bergwijn (Lo Celso 66’) 7
Worked hard and added some threat on the counter. End product still lacking.
Moussa Sissoko (Ndombele 81’) 5
Limited impact as a late sub to save Ndombele’s legs.
Subs not used: Hart, Bale, Dier, Dele, Scarlett, Devine.
