Tottenham player ratings: Lucas stars in Aston Villa win

Carlos Vinicius justified his surprise selection with his first Premier League goal, tapping in to an empty net after fine work by Lucas Moura, and Harry Kane won and scored a penalty.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Villa Park to assess the Spurs players…

Had little more than a couple of routine saves to make but commanded his area well and came for crosses.

Made an important late block to deny Ollie Watkins’s goal-bound effort. Most of Villa’s threat came down his flank and it was unclear if he was instructed to tuck inside or naturally drifted towards the centre.

Used his pace to cover well and made some important challenges. Caught the wrong side once towards the end, which nearly proved costly.

In the right place to clear Trezeguet’s shot from danger during a good Villa spell and looked composed on his first appearance since January.

Offered plenty of pace and thrust down the left flank, even if his end product was scatty. Forced off before the hour after a heavy challenge.

Less composed than normal and looks to be feeling the effects of a long season. Still, he was vital to Spurs as a defensive shield and forced a late save from Emiliano Martinez.

Battled superbly in the build-up to Kane winning the penalty but was often loose with the ball and looked tired in the second half. A rest over the international break will surely do him good.
