Tottenham player ratings vs Brentford: Son menaces & Skipp impressive

After a clear week on a training field under Antonio Conte following the postponement of Sunday’s match at Burnley, an improved Spurs took the lead when Sergi Canos turned Son’s cross into his own net in the first half.

The South Korean clinched the game with a classic Conte goal after the break, starting and finishing a lethal counter-attack following good work from Harry Kane and Sergio Reguilon.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the Spurs players…

Dealt well to cope with Brentford’s aerial bombardment, including two brave punches in the final 10 minutes. Had to be sharp to save a late Ivan Toney effort.

A few uncomfortable moments and rarely looks happy on the ball but helped Spurs to an encouraging clean sheet.

Another solid and unfussy display at the heart of the back three, despite switching off late on when Toney ran in behind.

Casually claimed the opening goal and went close in the second half with a looping header. Linked well with Reguilon down the left and defended well, putting his body on the line.

His crossing was erratic, including one poor ball after being released by Kane. He wasn’t always comfortable against opposite man Rico Henry and replaced late on.

Began to look like a proper Conte wing-back. Got forward well all game and made the second goal with a lung-busting run and low cross for Son – even if his final ball had been hit and miss until that point.

Sat back and allowed Skipp to be the more adventurous of the midfield two. Kept it simple with the ball.
