Arteta hits back at Atletico
Thomas Partey’s transfer from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal is one which has stoked a fire between the two clubs, due to Atletico’s perceived unhappiness at the conduct with which the deal was completed.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta feels as though the Spanish club have no right to begrudge Arsenal their signing, though. Exercising the right to pay Partey’s release clause negated any need for the clubs to negotiate directly.
“When you have a release clause in your contract you assume that that situation can arise at any minute.
“While the market is open it’s completely legal to do it,” Arteta reiterated in his latest press conference.
The Spaniard feels Arsenal did not do anything untoward in securing Partey’s signing late in the window, although it is not hard to see why Atletico would be irked, as the club were unable to sign a permanent replacement for an important member of their first-team.
