Transfer news LIVE! Odegaard to Arsenal; Koulibaly, Upamecano latest

The rumours continue to come thick and fast as we approach the latter stages of the window and clubs scramble to get business done in the Premier League and beyond.

Arsenal have signed Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan until the end of the season, while Standard Sport understands they are increasingly confident that Martin Odegaard will also join on loan from Real Madrid. Mikel Arteta is also looking for another left-back as cover for Kieran Tierney.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Liverpool are both rumoured to be keen on signing highly-rated Bayern Munich teenager Jamal Musiala, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also has his eye on Palmeiras forward Gabriel Veron.

Leicester look to have been priced out of a swoop for former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen, with Chelsea targeting a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

Dele Alli is reportedly eager for Spurs not to block a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham are eyeing another bid for Bournemouth’s Josh King and Liverpool also have both Inter Milan’s Nicola Barella and Reading’s Michael Olise on their radar this month.

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori also looks to have completed his loan move to AC Milan that includes the option for a permanent summer transfer.

Klopp nonplussed by Salah transfer tak

Jurgen Klopp says speculation regarding Mohamed Salah’s future will not distract his Liverpool side this season.

In an interview published in Spain just before Christmas the Egypt international spoke about his disappointment over not being made captain for the Champions League dead rubber against Midtjylland, while also expressing his admiration for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

It has been widely viewed as a negotiating tactic to get an improvement on a contract which does not expire until 2023 but, as a result, he is asked about his future in every media interview he now gives.

Klopp said of the situation: “That’s a normal thing in the world of football. He didn’t have a speech, it is not that we go out and talk about things which are important, it is pretty rare that happens.

“We get asked questions and then we answer. It always sounds like we started the conversation but in most cases it is not like that. I don’t think it will distract the season.”

Arteta expects Odegaard calls today

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also specifically asked whether the Gunners were closing to signing Martin Odegaard, to which he responded: “I don’t know.

“Obviously we played today, so since last night I don’t have any news. Probably, I will get a few phone calls today and see where we are with every deal.”

Arteta on Odegaard, Smith Rowe

FA Cup holders Arsenal were dumped out of the competition 1-0 at Southampton today – but there was still room for questions about the Gunners’ pursuit of Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard.

Asked whether Odegaard’s potential arrival could affect Emile Smith Rowe’s development, Mikel Arteta replied: “I cannot talk about any player who is not ours.

“We have a very clear idea of how we want our players to develop and what they need to do that. All the decision we make are just to reinforce their development and try to give them the best possible chance.”

Rice battle hots up

Chelsea and Manchester United have been joined by Manchester City and Liverpool in the hunt for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, claims 90min.

Frank Lampard is the most long-term of admirers but the competition for Rice’s signature is hotting up amid suggestions he could be available for  £50 million.

Wolves sign Willian Jose

Wolves have signed striker Willian Jose from Real Sociedad on loan for the remainder of the season. They have the option to make the move permanent.

Mbappe wants Liverpool move

Kylian Mbappe is open to joining Liverpool, reports ESPN.

The young star is considering his future at PSG and is dream is to play for Real Madrid.

Financial constraints could delay that move, or any move, so a new contract extension is likely at the moment.

Done deal! Tomori joins Milan

Koulibaly wants Man United move

Kalidou Koulibaly is ready to leave Napoli and Manchester United is his preferred destination, reports Marca.

Manchester City and Liverpool are also long-time admirers for the centre-back, but it is their rival where 29-year-old wants to go next.

Koulibaly’s current deal with Napoli runs until 2023.

Arsenal monitoring Bertrand

Standard Sport understands that Arsenal are considering a move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand as they look to provide competition for Kieran Tierney.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta revealed this week the club are in the market for a left-back to compete with Tierney after Sead Kolasinac was allowed to join Schalke on loan.

Bertrand is into the final six months of his contract with the Saints and has been in protracted talks over a new deal with the south coast club.

The former Chelsea full-back, who still lives near the Blues’ west London training ground and commutes to Southampton, was of interest to Leicester in the summer following the sale of Ben Chillwell and the Foxes have kept tabs on the situation since.

The 31-year-old is thought to be happy to stay at the club he joined in 2014 – but, should a new deal not be agreed, offers from the likes of Arsenal would be hard to turn down.

Southampton would not sanction a sale this month with Bertrand being their only senior left-back, while the player would be happy to wait until the end of the season to assess his options if the new contract is not signed.
