elcome to Standard Sport’s latest LIVE coverage of the January transfer window as the rumour mill continues to gather pace.
The Covid-19 pandemic is causing financial uncertainty throughout football, though deals are still expected to go through this month amid a relentless schedule in the Premier League and elsewhere. The window slams shut at 11pm on Monday, February 1.
Resurgent Arsenal’s main priority appears to be to trim a bloated squad under Mikel Arteta, who says Mesut Ozil’s future could be resolved in the coming days. The Gunners are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements with Julian Brandt, Emi Buendia and Yves Bissouma among the latest players linked with the Emirates amid fresh doubts over Folarin Balogun, while teenage defender Omar Rekik has completed his move from Hertha Berlin.
Liverpool are said to be battling with Real Madrid for the signing of Bayern Munich stalwart David Alaba, while Sergio Ramos is also being touted for a move to Anfield along with Red Bull Salzburg forward Patson Daka.
Manchester United have finally completed their deal for Atalanta winger Amad Diallo as Donny van de Beek is urged to consider his Old Trafford future, while Fikayo Tomori’s hopes of leaving Chelsea this month may now have been ruined by an injury to Andreas Christensen.
Tottenham are confident of agreeing a new contract with Heung-min Son and Manchester City are believed to remain the front runners to sign Lionel Messi.
Meanwhile, West Ham’s record signing Sebastien Haller is closing in on a €25million move to Dutch giants Ajax as the Hammers eye Bournemouth striker Josh King and are linked with Moussa Dembele, with Robert Snodgrass set to become Sam Allardyce’s first signing at West Brom.
Agent Mount on Rice case?
Mason Mount has ‘liked’ on Instagram an image of best friend, and West Ham star, Declan Rice in a Chelsea shirt.
Hey, it’s the January transfer window… so this is news? You be the judge.
West Ham in for Dembele?
Reports coming out of France this evening claim West Ham have added Moussa Dembele to their list of transfer targets.
The striker has scored just once in 16 games for Lyon this season – though many of those appearances were off the bench – as the club sit top of Ligue 1.
Grant backs Frank
Under-pressure Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been given backing by former Blues boss Avram Grant.
“About the current situation I can say only this,” he said on Instagram. “You need to be strong when things are not going well, when things are going well everyone is a genius and knows what to do.
“But in the situation like this when things aren’t going well you need to be strong, look for solutions and show a lot about your character.
“What I can say to Frank and the others at the club is be patient, and more than this do whatever is necessary to do that’s for sure. Two things: never lost it even when things are going well, don’t lose your fighting spirit at the highest level.
“And second, don’t lose what you have here [points at head] you need to think right and look for solutions. If you do that then everything will be okay because the quality is there and there is a potential like there is in my time.”
Rekik: I’m a winner
Arsenal’s newest signing, Omar Rekik, has described himself as “a winner” as he begins life as a Gunner.
“I’m a winner,” he said. “I always want to win, and that’s with everything.
“I’m a central defender and I like to play with the ball, I like to play out from the back, and I think this is also the structure of the club. It fits perfectly.”
He continued: “When a club like Arsenal is interested, I don’t think anyone needs to think twice.
“As a young player, you need to play somewhere where they’re not afraid to give you a chance and you can see a lot of youth players have broken through here, and I want to be the next one.”
More on Diallo’s visa
Here’s Standard Sport’s James Robson.
Arsenal have been linked with interest in Julian Brandt, but Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc insists there is nothing in it.
“There is nothing on the table at the moment,” Zorc said. “We can’t do anything about rumours that are constantly being spread that simply don’t reflect the truth.
“There’s currently no interest”.
Pochettino to hold transfer meeting
French outlet RMC say Mauricio Pochettino and PSG sporting director Leonardo will meet next week to decide upon the club’s January business.
The report suggests the Ligue 1 giants do not have significant amounts of money to spend but are interested in Tottenham’s Dele Alli, while several players could be made available for swap deals, including Julian Draxler.
Someone’s looking forward to playing in red…
Confirmed: Diallo joins Man United
Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Amad Diallo from Atalanta, with the youngster signing a deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2025.
United agreed a deal with the Italian outfit on the final day of the last transfer window but the move was still subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit.
