The summer transfer window is entering a crucial stage with less than two weeks until the major European league seasons begin. Harry Kane has failed to return to Tottenham after his holiday in an attempt to force through a move to Manchester City. With Jack Grealish set to join City for £100m after Aston Villa signed Danny Ings, will Kane follow?
Staying in London, Chelsea want Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku to lead their attack, with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde their preference for a defender… and multiple reports suggest Inter Milan star Lukaku is now the priority with Dortmund’s asking price for Haaland too high, with the Belgian keen on a return to Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United have made two key early deals: Jadon Sancho has arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £73million, while Raphael Varane just needs to complete his medical, which is likely to be on Monday. Paul Pogba could be on the move though, but could delay his decision beyond this summer. PSG want him, while Mino Raiola has reportedly offered Pogba to Liverpool… cheeky. Should Pogba leave United, then Saul Niguez is a reported target – but Liverpool are also said to be interested.
As for Liverpool, Manuel Locatelli, Youri Tielemans and Nicolo Barella are all targets with Jordan Henderson’s future unclear, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new four-year deal at Anfield.

Villa delighted to sign Ings
So, Aston Villa have sprung a surprise and signed striker Danny Ings from Southampton this evening.
Standard Sport understands that Villa paid a premium £30m to sign Ings, who had one year left on his Saints deal. The 29-year-old former England international has agreed a three-year contract at Villa Park and he arrives on the same day Villa announced the signing of forward Leon Bailey on a deal running until 2025.
Villa boss Dean Smith said of Ings on the club’s website: “Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young academy players who are now in and around the first team.
“I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great club.”
More on the Romano Lukaku situation from Fabrizio Romano.
Romano says: “Chelsea are getting confident to sign Lukaku soon. Direct talks with Inter, new official bid coming. €12m net per season + add ons offered to Romelu who’s open to re-join Chelsea”.
He also states that Atalanta will look to sign Tammy Abraham, with the English striker’s chances of football at Chelsea looking even more remote should Lukaku return.
Lukaku ‘wants Chelsea move’
Well now… according to multiple reports, Romelu Lukaku has informed Italian champions Inter Milan he wants to return to Chelsea this summer and that any acceptable bids made for the striker should be accepted.
The Champions League winners have already seen one bid knocked back for Lukaku with Inter valuing the Belgium international at £100m.
Chelsea have moved their focus onto their former striker after being knocked back in their attempts to land Erling Haaland.
Done deal! Danny Ings joins Aston Villa
Wow! Nobody saw this coming… Danny Ings has joined Aston Villa.
Ings was thought to be holding out for the likes of Manchester United, but up-and-coming Villa have spent some of that incoming £100m Jack Grealish fee on signing the Southampton striker, who had a year left on his deal at St Mary’s.
Kane delays return again
Harry Kane has effectively ruled himself out of Tottenham’s season opener against Manchester City, The Telelgraph report.
The wantaway Spurs striker has not returned to Hotspur Way following his time off after Euro 2020 as he looks for force a move through to Manchester City.
Kane was expected to be back for the start of his pre-season on Monday this week, but the England captain has been on holiday in the Bahamas and has now made a pit-stop in Florida.
According to the report, Kane remains in America and while he still plans to return by the weekend, isolation protocols mean he will not start any training until next week, making featuring against Manchester City on August 15, a week Sunday.
Inter Milan fans have warned the club over any sale of star striker Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.
The Champions League winners are testing Inter’s resolve over Lukaku with a string of offers this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his forward line.
Inter have said they will not sell but concerned ultras have strung up a banner warning that “promises must be kept”.
New Liverpool deal for Alisson
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has signed a new six-year deal with the club, keeping him at Anfield until 2027.
The Brazilian is the third Liverpool player to agree an extension this summer, following Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Fabinho.
“I think I didn’t waste too much time to think about that. It’s something we just built in those last three years, the confidence, the trust that I have in the club and the club has in myself,” said Alisson.
“Me and my family, we are really happy here. My kids are settled in England, in a different country, but they are growing up in that way. So we are really happy.
“I’m really glad that I can keep going on with my work here, doing a good job here. So, I’m really happy to make this decision – that is not hard for me.”
What next for Kane?
With Jack Grealish close to securing a huge move to Man City, what does that mean for Harry Kane?
Grealish’s England team-mate has been AWOL from Spurs training for the past two days, with the club hugely disapponited by his actions.
Kane is set to receive a hefty fine but is expected to report back for training later this week. Daniel Levy will stand firm in transfer talks with City, but with Kane taking extraordinary measures to try and seal an exit from Spurs, it would appear more likely than not a deal can be done.
One sticking point could be the fee – Spurs would likely want at least £150m, while City are already spending £100m on Grealish. City may offer north of £100m plus one or two players, so these negotiations could run and run…
Jack Grealish is currently on his way to Manchester ahead of his move to Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.
The England international will reportedly undergo his medical with City tomorrow morning before finalising his £100m move from Aston Villa.
£100m Grealish to join Man City
A reminder now that Jack Grealish is expected to sign for Man City for the princely sum of £100m.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is getting ‘closer and closer’, and it is no surprise that the finishing touches are taking a while given the transfer fee is a nine-figure sum.
Grealish will look to take his game to the next level at City, and given his ability on the ball and penchant for winning free-kicks, he will, quite simply, make City harder to beat.
Whether he’s worth that fee is up for debate, but he may be worth a premium to also keep him out of the clutches of the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
