Transfer Talk! Latest January window news and gossip today

elcome back to our LIVE coverage of all the latest transfer news, deals, gossip and rumours with the January window just days away.

Liverpool ended 2020 as they spent most of it: top of the Premier League table. However, Manchester United are three points behind the champions with a game in hand, and a potential title challenge could spark them into life in January.

Amad Diallo is all set to complete his switch from Atalanta to offer bite on the right of attack, while The Sun reports that Max Aarons is on United’s wishlist – but they may have to wait until January to sign the Norwich full-back.

Jadon Sancho was United’s No1 target in the summer, but missing out on him then was always likely to draw more suitors – and Chelsea have now reportedly themselves back in the race for the Borussia Dortmund star.

As for Arsenal, Sead Kolasinac has joined Schalke on loan, while Real Madrid playmaker Isco has been linked with a loan move – and Hertha Berlin’s young defender Omar Rekik could be on his way to north London. Dortmund’s Julian Brandt is another option in a creative role for the Gunners, and AS Roma’s £35m defender Roger Ibanez is also said to be under consideration.

Back to Liverpool, where the Reds are said to have swooped to beat United to Celta Vigo starlet Stefan Bajcetic. Though Mo Salah is still starring for the champions, Didi Hamann says Kingsley Coman would be a fine successor if the Egyptian moves on.

Meanwhile, the Lionel Messi saga continues with reports in Spain suggesting he will stay at Barcelona until 2023 before moving to the US to raise his children – oh, and also playt for David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

It is no secret that Arsenal want more creativity – even with Mesut Ozil banished to his front room to live-tweet games.

Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt is a clever player, and could be on Arsenal’s radar.

According to Sport Witness, Arsenal have been scouting the 24-year-old – and Mikel Arteta’s squad are said to have been “actively” discussing his arrival in the dressing room.

Dortmund are unlikely to want to sell in January, but that is certainly one to watch…

When does the January transfer window open?

It seems like a silly question considering it’s January 1… but the January transfer window officially opens on January 2. Now it’s not likely that any huge moves will be made today, but clubs will be busy looking for good deals in a difficult market.

Good morning, Happy New Year, and welcome back to our LIVE transfer news coverage as we enter 2021 – and that means the January transfer window is about to open…

Kolasinac bids Arsenal farewell… for now

Is this the last we have seen of Sead Kolasinac in an Arsenal shirt?

His current Gunners contract is due to run until the summer of 2022…

Pennington leaves Everton on loan

News of a confirmed exit from Goodison Park.

Everton have confirmed that defender Matthew Pennington will join League One outfit Shrewsbury Town on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

The 26-year-old academy graduate has been restricted to Premier League 2 appearances for the Toffees this term after previous loan stints with the likes of Hull, Ipswich, Leeds, Walsall, Coventry and Tranmere.

Pennington has appeared nine times in total for Everton at senior level – scoring in a Merseyside derby – but the last of those outings came in 2017.

Garcia agrees Barcelona contract

Less positive developments at Manchester City, who look poised to lose Eric Garcia.

Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Spanish centre-back has agreed a five-year contract to return to Camp Nou.

Garcia has less than six months remaining on his current City deal having rejected the offer of an extension and is free to discuss terms with overseas suitors in January.

It remains to be seen if he will have to wait until the summer to complete his move to Barca, or if the club will try to work out a deal with City to make it happen next month.

Liverpool clinch Bajcetic deal

Good news for Liverpool, who look to have clinched the signing of Stefan Bajcetic.

According to The Athletic, the Reds managed to swoop and clinch the signing of the 16-year-old Celta Vigo defender before new Brexit regulations come into play.

Bajcetic had reportedly been linked with a move to rivals Manchester United.

Evans signs new Leicester deal

Jonny Evans has ended any speculation over a potential departure from high-flying Leicester by signing a new two-and-a-half year contract at the club.

The experienced Northern Ireland centre-back has put pen to paper on an extension that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2023.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed. I’m delighted to commit myself to the Club, and delighted the Club have committed themselves to me,” Evans said.

“I’ve loved it here since the first day I came in. It’s a great atmosphere around the place and it’s a Club with a lot of ambition.

“The players are ambitious and the signings that they’ve made over the years, they’ve signed young, hungry players and it’s been great for me to come in alongside that and be a part of it.”

Edu explains Kolasinac exit

Here is what Arsenal’s technical director Edu has had to say on Kolasinac’s return to Schalke, the club with whom the Bosnian left-back spent six years before leaving on a free transfer in 2017…

“Sead needs to be playing regularly, so we have decided together that a move back to Germany with Schalke will benefit him at this moment.

“We will be keeping in close contact with Sead, and wish him huge success for the remainder of the season with Schalke.”
