Transfer talk LIVE! January window latest – Lampard to be sacked?

elcome back to our LIVE coverage of the January transfer window, which opens today.

The winter window is officially open for Premier League clubs to start making any moves following a dramatic start to the season.

Manchester United have gone level on points with League leaders Liverpool. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with his squad, summer signing Amad Diallo is set to join up with the Red Devils squad, Jadon Sancho is still a target, while reports of a move for Jack Grealish won’t go away – even if the Aston Villa captain would cost £100million.

As for Arsenal, January looks to be more about Mikel Arteta cutting his squad rather than adding to it, with Mesut Ozil’s future a chief concern. Still, the Gunners have been linked with Real Madrid playmaker Isco, AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez and more – so don’t rule out anything just yet.

Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea have the money to spend despite over £200m of summer arrivals, and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma – available on a free this summer – could be a surprise target. Though will Frank Lampard be in charge come February?

Liverpool are looking at defenders with Lille’s Sven Botman a possibility, while Jose Mourinho says any Tottenham arrivals would be a “big surprise”… but is that a smokescreen from the Spurs boss? Meanwhile, Dele Alli may be on his way to PSG with Mauricio Pochettino confirmed as their new head coach.

“We will talk in the summer and make a decision then,” said Mikel Arteta. “We have not talked [now] about anything related to his contract.

“I am delighted with the way he has performed because he is scoring, has the form and energy at the moment, so he needs to keep doing that.”

Pochettino now faces the challenge of convincing the Frenchman to stay in Paris to become part of his vision for the club, with the World Cup winner likely to be sold this summer if he has not penned a new deal.

Pogba ‘to be sold in the summer’

The Sunday Mirror are reporting that Manchester United will sell Paul Pogba in the summer after accepting that the Frenchman will not sign a new deal.

Pogba’s future has been the topic of a public debate, sparked by his agent, Mino Raiola, stating that the midfielder is unhappy at Old Trafford and should be allowed to leave.

Those comments left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer furious, but the Mirror’s report claims United will cede to his demands, with Pogba’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2022.

Lampard: Havertz will come good after slow start

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has backed German star Kai Havertz to come good despite a slow start to the season.

Havertz was a £70million signing from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but his adaptation has been badly hit by the effects of a severe bout of coronavirus.

“Kai had five work days with us before he first played and that’s just not beneficial to a player in any league, let alone when you’re coming to the fastest, most physical league in the world,” Lampard said.

“Just as Kai was coming to terms with that – and you saw some really good performances from him – he got Covid and he had it quite severely.

“He’s definitely had a bit of a fallout from that physically. We know that and are trying to help him deal with that. The expectations around him… you have to put context into the story.

“Kai’s talent is undoubted and I see that every day. Giving him the time to adapt to the Premier League and to our team is crucial.”

The 19-year-old currently plays for Independiente del Valle in his homeland and the report claims there would be no problem agreeing a deal between the two clubs should United try to push the deal through this month.
