The summer transfer window is now well underway, and we are starting to see the top clubs across Europe step up their efforts to splash some cash and refresh their respective squads for the upcoming 2021/22 season, which is sure to be every bit as hectic as the last.
Manchester United are finally set to sign no1 target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, with the deal set to get the signed and sealed ‘here we go’ approval from Fabrizio Romano imminently. Raphael Varane also wants to swap Real Madrid for Old Trafford, while fresh reports suggest that the Red Devils will rival Arsenal in the race for Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga after signing Sancho.
Edinson Cavani is also said to have recommended Uruguay team-mate Nicolas De La Cruz as a potential new Manchester United recruit.
Elsewhere, Premier League champions Manchester City continue to chase big-money deals for both Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, while they have also been linked with a surprise move for Chelsea right-back Reece James.
Liverpool are said to have lodged an official enquiry with PSG regarding French superstar Kylian Mbappe, while Tottenham are reported to be in talks with Bologna over Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu as they also turn to ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo in their prolonged managerial search to replace Jose Mourinho.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are trying to seal a £50m deal for Brighton defender Ben White, while they are also rumoured to be chasing the likes of Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches and long-time target Houssem Aouar of Lyon.

ICYMI | Man United want Camavinga
A number of reports circulating this weekend surrounding Rennes and France starlet Eduardo Camavinga.
Yesterday, it was claimed that Arsenal had made the 18-year-old midfielder their top summer transfer target.
The likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been strongly linked with the highly-rated Camavinga over recent months, now the Mail on Sunday report that Manchester United are pondering a move for his services after they wrap up the signing of England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the coming days.
It’s going to be a busy summer at Old Trafford…
Aston Villa plot £40m Abraham bid
Aston Villa look poised to splash the cash further this summer.
After already forking out around £40m to pip Arsenal to the signing of Norwich playmaker Emi Buendia, they have been linked with a second audacious bid for Gunners favourite Emile Smith Rowe.
Now The Mirror also report that ambitious Villa are planning an offer for out-of-favour Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham worth another £40m.
Abraham barely featured at all after Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in January and has supposedly been told that he can move on this summer as the European champions target a top-class striker such as Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Sancho set for massive pay jump at Old Trafford
Speaking of Sancho, more financial details are emerging concerning his proposed switch to Old Trafford, expected to be completed over the coming days at long last.
The Star on Sunday report that the England winger will earn £250,000-a-week at Manchester United after his camp were initially seeking £350,000-per-week, which would have put him just below top earner David De Gea.
It’s still a big increase on Sancho’s reported £100,000 weekly wage at Dortmund, though it is claimed he received around £90,000 in add-ons every seven days in the Bundesliga.
Man United to battle Arsenal for Camavinga?
Manchester United and Arsenal could be set to scrap it out over Eduardo Camavinga this summer.
Reports that circulated yesterday suggested that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta had made the Rennes starlet – one of European football’s most highly-rated young midfielders – his new no1 transfer target for the current window.
However, the Mail on Sunday now say that United are mulling over their own approach for the France international, 18, once they have finally completed the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
It is said that Rennes would be willing to sell their prize asset, who has just one year remaining on his contract at Roazhon Park.
Tottenham in talks over Tomiyasu deal
Tottenham might still not have a permanent managerial successor to Jose Mourinho in place, but they could soon have a new defender arriving.
The Daily Mail report that Spurs are in talks with Serie A club Bologna over a deal for Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The versatile centre-back can also play on the right-side of defence and is reportedly valued at around £15m, making him a cheaper alternative to Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey.
Tottenham have also been linked with the likes of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and former Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen as they look to strengthen their much-maligned defensive unit.
Liverpool launch Mbappe enquiry
Could Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool really be a possibility?
The Reds have long been linked with the French superstar, whose Paris Saint-Germain future remains subject to huge uncertainty as he enters the final 12 months of his current contract at the Parc des Princes.
Long-term suitors Real Madrid would surely be considered the most likely destination were PSG to sell this summer and avoid the prospect of losing one of the world’s best footballers for free in 2022, though Marca report that Liverpool have now officially enquired about his availability in this window.
However, PSG are understandably said to have no desire to get rid of Mbappe at this stage and earlier this week handed Kylian’s 15-year-old brother Ethan a youth contract at the club.
Man United eye De La Cruz bid after Cavani tip-off
Manchester United could reportedly be set to move for one of Edinson Cavani’s Uruguayan team-mates.
TNT Sports report that the Premier League giants are interested in signing Nicolas De La Cruz, who is currently representing his country at the Copa America.
It is suggested that a bid could be forthcoming for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who plays his club football for River Plate in Argentina and may have been personally recommended by Cavani.
De La Cruz supposedly has an asking price somewhere between €16-20m.
Hakimi to join PSG
Chelsea were linked with Achraf Hakimi, but the Blues will not be signing him.
Fabrizio Romano report that PSG are signing the right wing-back, with an agreement reached tonight and medicals set for next week.
PSG will pay Inter 60m euros plus another 10m in add-ons – that’s a great deal for the Serie A champions given they are struggling financially.
Leonardo Spinazzola is impressing once again for Italy. The left wing-back has been the biggest threat for the Azzurri so far against Austria, but it remains 0-0 at half-time at Wembley.
If Italy go through and Spinazzola continues in this form, it won’t be long before clubs are being linked with the AS Roma defender – though Jose Mourinho will presumably be watching this and have the 28-year-old marked out as a key player to keep for next season.
Kane would ‘slot right in’ at Man City
Nigel De Jong believes Tottenham striker Harry Kane would slot straight into the Man City set-up as his former club look to fill the “huge” void left by all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero.
De Jong, a former team-mate of Aguero at City, is interested to see how Pep Guardiola chooses to move forwards with Kane a top target this summer.
“It all depends on what Pep is really looking for,” the former Dutch international told PA. “We’ve been talking about a striker that City is missing but knowing Pep he just played with a false nine the whole season again.
“It’s all about what he really wants in his team and what he thinks that it’s giving this team. This little bit more energy and a little bit more quality up front. Of course the loss of Sergio Aguero, for me, is huge – not only as a player but also as a person in the dressing room.
“It’s quite clear you have to fill that gap, I think with a striker. Could it be Harry Kane? Could it be even (Erling) Haaland? That’s also a possibility. There’s certain areas, certain positions that he will think to boost up during the season or during the summer.
“But of course Harry Kane is a great player for City and also in the Premier League. He knows the Premier League, he has experience in the Premier League. I think he will slot right in in that squad, but nothing is done yet.
“This is all speculation and rumour and so on, so we just have to wait to see what the owners are going to do.”
