The summer transfer window is up and running, and we are starting to see clubs across Europe step up their efforts to spend some cash and refresh their respective squads.
At Euro 2020, we’ve seen some players putting themselves in the shop window already and Swedish striker Alexander Isak certainly falls into that category. Reports suggest Chelsea – also battling Man City for Erling Haaland – have now joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for his signature, while they are also said to have launched a new bid for Inter Milan star Achraf Hakimi.
Arsenal are reportedly reigniting their interest in long-term target Houssem Aouar of Lyon, while Kieran Tierney is set to sign a new five-year deal in a major boost to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Meanwhile Manchester United have reportedly made an improved offer to Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho worth more than £75m, while their centre-back search is narrowing to either Real Madrid star Raphael Varane or Villarreal defender Pau Torres.
Staying in Spain, Barcelona could also been on the lookout for a sensational deal for Cristiano Ronaldo, with AS reporting that the Blaugrana want to partner him in attack with Lionel Messi.

Inter sign Calhanoglu from Milan
Inter Milan have signed Turkey international Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer from city rivals AC Milan.
The 27-year-old midfielder signed a three-year deal with Serie A champions Inter after helping Milan finish second and securing Champions League football after a gap of seven years.
Calhanoglu, who joined Milan from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017 after a three-year spell at the German Bundesliga club, scored four goals and provided 10 assists in 33 league appearances for the side in 2020-21.
Calhanoglu was part of the Turkey side who were knocked out of the Euros after finishing bottom in Group A, scoring only once and failing to win any of their three games.
Varane or Torres to Man Utd?
So, while Manchester United are busy ploughing ahead with a deal for Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, centre-back is also a key area that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane has been on their list for ‘months’, while United are ‘aware of a release clause in Pau Torres’ contract’ which stands at 65m euros, rather than the 50m reported elsewhere.
Still, Man City’s success with Ruben Dias – and Liverpool’s with Virgil van Dijk – suggests that if United feel Torres is the right defender, such a player can make all the difference.
Bould to leave Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed that Gunners legend Steve Bould will leave this summer, bringing to an end his 33-year association with the club as player and coach.
Standard Sport reported last month that Bould, whose most recent role has been as coach of the club’s U23 side, would leave as part of Arsenal’s ongoing restructure.
Bould signed for Arsenal as a player in 1988, joining from Stoke City and going on to win three league titles, becoming part of the club’s famed back-four alongside the likes of Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn and Tony Adams.
After his retirement, Bould went into coaching, leading the U18s to FA Youth Cup glory in 2009, before becoming assistant manager to Arsene Wenger following Pat Rice’s retirement in 2012.
“Steve has been a fantastic servant for us on and off the pitch,” Arsenal academy manager Per Mertesacker said in a statement. “His record as a player speaks for itself and he has been an inspiration to generations of young players coming through the academy.
“This has been a very hard decision to make. Steve’s contribution to the under-23s and the club as a whole has been huge and he will always be an important figure in our history.”
Arsenal add Calvert-Lewin to wishlist
Arsenal are keeping an eye on Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who report that manager Mikel Arteta is keen to refresh his forward line ahead of the start of the new season and could raid his former club to do so.
Everton, who are currently without a manager, would of course be reluctant to let their star striker join a Premier League rival.
Southampton want another Armstrong
Southampton are leading the race to sign Blackburn striker Adam Armstrong, according to The Telegraph.
The 23-year-old has scored 46 goals over the last two Championship seasons and is set to make the step up to the top flight for around £10million.
Norwich and West Ham have also been interested in a deal but, according to the Telegraph’s report, Southampton lead the way.
Pau Torres to cost €65m
More on Manchester United’s interest in Pau Torres.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Red Devils are interested and are aware of a release clause in his Villarreal contract.
Torres won’t come cheap however, with that clause said to be €65million this summer.
Man Utd given boost in Torres pursuit
Manchester United have been encouraged in their pursuit of Villarreal centre-back, Pau Torres, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Ole Gunnar Solskjear is keen to recruit at the back this summer and is interested in the Spain international and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
With Torres away at Euro 2020 with Spain there is unlikely to be any deal done soon.
Chelsea turn to Moreno
Chelsea have identified Gerard Moreno as their ‘Plan B’ for Erling Haaland, reports the Mirror.
Thomas Tuchel is desperate to sign a striker as the Blues look to launch a Premier League title bid next season.
Haaland is top of the list, followed closely by Harry Kane, but Villarreal’s Moreno is now also a target.
Calhanoglu set for Inter medical
Hakan Calhanoglu will undergo his medical with Inter Milan this week after Turkey were knocked out of Euro 2020.
The attacking midfielder is leaving rivals AC Milan on a free after snubbing the chance to sign a new deal.
Calhanoglu had been attracting interest from the Premier League, but he is close to joining Inter and just needs to do his medical.
He will pen a three-year deal worth around £5m-a-year.
Mourinho wants Ramos
Roma are preparing an audacious swoop for Spain legend Sergio Ramos.
The centre-back will be a free agent this summer as Real Madrid have opted not to renew his contract.
And, according to Sportmediaset, Roma have offered the 35-year-old the chance to join them and play under Jose Mourinho.
The deal is reportedly worth around £6.5m-a-year and would run for two seasons.
