Transfers LIVE! Arsenal close to £50m White deal, Liverpool eye Malen

The summer transfer window is well underway, and we are starting to see the top clubs across Europe step up their efforts to spend some cash and refresh their respective squads for the upcoming 2021/22 season.

England captain Harry Kane still dominates the transfer headlines on a daily basis and Manchester City have made their first official bid for the striker worth £100m, with the option for players included.

Reports now suggest City could have success in their pursuit of Jack Grealish – also linked with Chelsea – with the player’s camp confident they have got the green light for a huge £100m transfer to be sealed after the Euros.

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Brighton and England defender Ben White in a deal that could be worth more than £50m, meanwhile.

The Gunners have also been linked with re-signing Donyell Malen, though it now appears that Liverpool have opened discussions over the PSV Eindhoven forward, while also being linked with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn and Portugal’s Renato Sanches.

Meanwhile, Standard Sport understands that Manchester United are planning for life with Jadon Sancho after submitting a second bid to Borussia Dortmund worth £72m, while their centre-back search is narrowing to either Real Madrid star Raphael Varane or Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

Chelsea are considered front runners in the race to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and West Ham are on the trail of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, while on the manager front Tottenham continue to be linked with ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and Graham Potter, and Lucien Favre has pulled out of a deal to join Crystal Palace at the 11th hour.

Favre pulls out of Crystal Palace deal

In case you missed it last night, it seems that Lucien Favre won’t be taking the managerial reins at Crystal Palace after all.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss, 63, was due to sign a three-year contract at Selhurst Park yesterday to become the successor to Roy Hodgson, only to reportedly pull out at the 11th hour after deciding he wasn’t ready to return to the rigours of top-level management.

Palace were told that Swiss Favre – who has also been linked with the likes of Lille and Fenerbahce – had seen his work permit application accepted shortly after he withdrew from the deal, per the Daily Mail.

Palace also saw talks break down with ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo last month.

Arsenal in ‘advanced talks’ over £50m White deal

Arsenal are seemingly edging closer to the signing of Brighton defender Ben White.

Per Sky Sports, the Gunners are in advanced talks over a deal for the highly-rated England defender that could be worth more than £50m.

The report adds that the clubs remain apart on the fee and how the overall deal will be structured, but that all sides are optimistic that an agreement can be struck.

White has impressed with his performances in central defence both for Brighton and during a loan spell at Leeds – who tried to sign him permanently – in 2019/20.

He has also attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and was drafted into Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man Euro 2020 squad as a replacement for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold after originally being cut from England’s expanded 33-man group.

ICYMI: Man Utd expect to sign Sancho

Manchester United are already planning for life with Jadon Sancho after lodging a second bid worth £72m for the England international.

That is still £5m below Borussia Dortmund’s asking price, but there is confidence on all sides that a deal will be done – two years after United first identified him as a target.

With Sancho’s camp happy with personal terms that were on the table last year, it is now a case of agreeing the finer details of the overall package.

Dortmund are believed to want around £4m in add-ons to get the deal over the line, with Sancho’s heart set on the move.

United are already much further ahead in their pursuit of Sancho than they were last year when their refusal to meet Dortmund’s asking price of more than £100m saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer miss out on his top target.
