Man City had looked favourites to sign Ronaldo from Juventus after Tottenham refused to entertain selling Harry Kane, but United have now confirmed a deal for their former No7 to return to Old Trafford.
The fun doesn’t stop there though, as another superstar – Kylian Mbappe – could also be on the move from PSG. Real Madrid have lodged a second bid, worth €170m, after the Parisians accused Real of an “illegal” approach… but if Real get their man, that could also see PSG turn to Erling Haaland, Richarlison or Gabriel Jesus. What a summer!
Arsenal have spent more than any other top European team, with the signings of Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale, while Liverpool have made a quiet transfer window and look to miss out on former targets Saul and Mbappe amid new contract plans for Mohamed Salah, with a move for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma seemingly not in the offing.

Kounde to Chelsea latest
So, will confirmation of Kurt Zouma’s exit to West Ham trigger Jules Kounde’s proposed move to Chelsea?
The Blues are still said to be in negotiations over the French international, but The Telegraph report that their hopes of securing a deal before Tuesday night’s transfer deadline have been damaged by a raise in his valuation.
Sevilla now reportedly want to bank £68.5m for a player still under contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for another three years.
Will Chelsea be willing to go that high?
Done deal! West Ham sign Zouma
West Ham have confirmed the arrival of Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.
The centre-back joins in a £25m move from Stamford Bridge in a real boost to David Moyes’ defence.
No Liverpool move for Bissouma
Any Liverpool fans still holding out hope over a late summer deal for Yves Bissouma look set to be disappointed.
There had been reports that the Reds could yet swoop for the £40m-rated Brighton midfielder before Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.
However, the Liverpool Echo now report that Liverpool do not consider the highly-rated Bissouma – also linked with Arsenal and Manchester United – as a transfer possibility at this stage.
Will Ibrahima Konate be Liverpool’s only new recruit in this window?
Juventus target Hazard as Ronaldo replacement
Could Eden Hazard be the next big name to move during this remarkable end to what was generally expected to be a quiet post-Covid transfer window?
According to Spanish publication Marca, Juventus are interested in signing the former Chelsea favourite on loan as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, with the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe set to limit his playing time further in LaLiga.
Meanwhile, Goal report that Madrid will look to offload one of Hazard, Marco Asensio or Rodrygo in order to make room for Mbappe.
PSG eye Richarlison swoop if Mbappe exits
Sky also report that PSG will move for Everton star Richarlison in the event that they do sell Mbappe to Real Madrid before the deadline.
Discussing the Brazilian on Friday, Toffees boss Rafael Benitez said: “We are not considering selling him.
“He’s our player, we’re really pleased with him, really happy, and hopefully he can score a lot of goals this year for us.”
Transfer specialist Nicolo Schira has claimed Everton would demand at least £85m for Richarlison, who has previously attracted bids from Barcelona.
Real Madrid to wait on Mbappe?
Real Madrid could be about to exercise some patience in their high-profile pursuit of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
According to Sky Sports, there have been positive talks between the two clubs following a second bid from the LaLiga giants worth £145.6m.
However, it is now suggested that Madrid could now wait until January to talk to Mbappe, when the French forward would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement as his current deal at PSG expires next summer.
Haaland does it again
Most people seem to have forgotten about Erling Haaland this summer, but he’s still doing what he does best – scoring goals.
Haaland fired a stoppage-time winner to give Dortmund a thrilling 3-2 win over Hoffenheim tonight to send BVB top of the Bundesliga standings.
Dortmund withstood a barrage of crosses early in the second half before mounting an attack down the left that ended with Gio Reyna firing home the opening goal with a bouncing shot to Baumann’s left.
Hoffenheim kept up the pressure and drew level in the 61st minute through Christoph Baumgartner, though Dortmund went ahead again eight minutes later as Jude Bellingham controlled a loose clearance on his thigh just inside the box before lashing the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 2-1.
Munas Dabbur thought he had snatched a point for Hoffenheim with a goal in the final minute of normal time, but Haaland smashed a loose ball into the top corner a minute later to send the home crowd into raptures.
Neville hails ‘fantastic’ Ronaldo deal
Speaking to Sky Sports, Gary Neville says of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United return: “It’s fantastic news. A little bit nostalgic and nostalgia doesn’t always work in football, it kicks you sometimes when you don’t expect it.
“The idea of him going to City was torture for United fans. If there is a big player available United have to be in the market for that player.
“What they’ve done is bolster the squad with a proven goalscorer, a club legend. He will score goals and give them brilliant moments.
“It will give the club an incredible 12 months and United fans are going to be absolutely rocking to see one of their own come back and play.”
He added: “This could give them a temporary shot in the arm that would potentially get them right up there this year.
“This news gives me more hope that United could have a great season because this is one of the most special players who has ever played the game of football.
Rio: Sir Alex key to Ronaldo return
Rio Ferdinand says he spoke to Cristiano Ronaldo at length on Thursday, and revealed former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had played a “massive part” in the Portuguese’s return to Old Trafford.
“Cristiano and Sir Alex Ferguson have got a bond,” Ferdinand said as he celebrated his former team-mate’s return on his YouTube channel with a glass of champagne.
“Very few players get to have that in their career with a manager. Sir Alex played a massive part.
“There was no way Cristiano was coming to Man United without speaking to Sir Alex. Simple as that.”
Done deal! Moussa Sissoko to Watford
Tottenham have confirmed that Moussa Sissoko is joining Watford on a permanent deal.
Sissoko, 32, joined Tottenham from Newcastle United in 2016 and has made 202 appearances for Spurs across all competitions.
He played 44 times in the 2018-19 season, helping Tottenham reach the Champions League final.
Sissoko joins Watford on a two-year deal for around £5m, and will be available to face Spurs for the Hornets on Sunday.
