The summer transfer window is well underway, and we are starting to see the top clubs across Europe step up their efforts to spend some cash and refresh their respective squads for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
England captain Harry Kane still dominates the transfer headlines on a daily basis and Manchester City have made their first official bid for the striker worth £100m, with the option for players included as they also target Chelsea’s Reece James.
City are similarly pursuing Jack Grealish – also linked with Chelsea – and a bid is expected, though Aston Villa are fighting hard to keep their star captain who wants to play Champions League football.
Arsenal are in advanced talks with Brighton over England defender Ben White in a deal that could be worth more than £50m, while Mikel Arteta has reportedly made Eduardo Camavinga his next priority target, while Alexander Isak and Yves Bissouma could also be on the wishlist.
Chelsea – still chasing Achraf Hakimi – and Tottenham could go head to head for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, with former Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen also on Spurs’ shortlist as they turn to ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo on their prolonged manager search, though Rangers’ Steven Gerrard is also on the radar.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are finally close to signing no1 target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, while Raphael Varane also wants to swap Real Madrid for Old Trafford, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may yet opt for Villarreal’s Pau Torres as wonderkid Kamaldeen Sulemana is also linked.
Liverpool are said to have opened talks over PSV Eindhoven star Donyell Malen amid links to the likes of superstar Kylian Mbappe, John McGinn, Renato Sanches, Ryan Gravenberch and others, though Jurgen Klopp has missed out to Leicester in the race to sign Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg.
Keep up to date with all of today’s latest transfer news, rumours and gossip below!
Man City interested in Reece James deal
Manchester City hold an interest in Chelsea’s Reece James, according to the latest reports.
The Athletic claim that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the England right-back, who has established himself as an important first-team figure at Stamford Bridge after rising through the academy and flourishing on loan at Wigan.
However, it is suggested that Chelsea’s pursuit of Inter Milan full-back Achraf Hakimi could leave James’ position subject to uncertainty, with City reportedly interested in making a move.
Arsenal make Camavinga top target
Arsenal are said to have set their transfer sights on Eduardo Camavinga this summer.
The Rennes midfielder, 18, is among the most exciting young talents in Europe and has already earned three senior international caps for world champions France – no mean feat, given the sheer depth of talent available to manager Didier Deschamps in practically every area.
Camavinga has been linked with a number of clubs over recent months as his stock continues to rise, most notably Real Madrid.
However, The Sun now cites reports claiming that Arsenal have made the teenager their no1 target in the summer transfer window.
Patson Daka confirms Leicester move
Patson Daka has confirmed that he will be joining Leicester City this summer.
The highly-rated Red Bull Salzburg forward, 22, had been linked with a host of clubs including the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.
However, Leicester have reportedly been pushing to sign the Zambian international for some weeks now as part of an impressive early summer recruitment drive that has also seen them push for the likes of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare and Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
And it appears that the FA Cup holders have now won the race.
“I will go to England and move to Leicester City,” Daka told Krone in Austria.
“I had a great time here, Salzburg has become my second home. I will always be happy to come back here, but the Premier League has always been my big dream.”
Tottenham target Kounde and Andersen
Yesterday, Standard Sport confirmed that former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is now the no1 target to replace Jose Mourinho as Tottenham’s permanent manager following something of a U-turn performed by the club after the arrival of new managing director of football Fabio Paratici.
Now The Guardian report that Spurs also want to address their major Achilles heel from last season by signing a new centre-back this summer.
Sevilla’s French international Jules Kounde – also linked with Chelsea – is on that defensive shortlist, as is Lyon’s Joachim Andersen, who impressed during a season-long loan spell at relegated Fulham last season, donning the captain’s armband under Scott Parker.
Varane wants Man United move
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane wants to move to Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
The centre-back is entering the final 12 months of his contract in the Spanish capital and his future there remains subject to huge doubt.
United have long been credited with an interest in Varane as they look to strengthen at the back, with Florentino Perez insisting yesterday that no bids had been submitted but leaving the door open to a potential exit.
The Independent now claim that Varane does want to head to Old Trafford as he seeks a new challenge after a decade in Madrid.
However, it is claimed that his £400,000 a week wage demands could prove a stumbling block, with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the French international, who is a key figure for Les Bleus and should start Monday’s Euro 2020 last-16 tie against Switzerland in Bucharest.
Villarreal’s Pau Torres is United’s other outstanding centre-half candidate.
Aneke agrees Birmingham switch
Charlton striker Chuks Aneke has agreed to join Championship side Birmingham City on a two-year deal.
The former Arsenal man is out of contract at the end of the month and will be reunited with former Addicks boss Lee Bowyer at St. Andrews.
Mbappe signs new PSG deal (not that one)
Getting Mbappe tied down is one of PSG’s big aims this summer and they’ve done it (sort of).
Kylian’s younger brother Ethan has agreed a new three-year deal at the French giants. Just the big man to go now, with Real Madrid sniffing around.
Driving up the Kane price for – erm – themselves?
Martial and Van de Beek up for sale?
Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for both Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial this summer, according to ESPN.
We heard a little earlier on of how United are closing on a deal worth around £72milllion to sign Jadon Sancho, and with Mason Greenwood flourishing and Edinson Cavani having signed a one-year extension, Martial could be surplus to requirements in the attacking positions.
Van de Beek, meanwhile, has endured a bit of a nightmare since arriving at Old Trafford last summer, struggling for both form and playing time.
Kieran Tierney has been talking about his decision to sign a new deal at Arsenal
“I think the vision of the club, and where it wants to go and the expectations of the club, is where I want to be in football, at the top,” said Tierney.
“There is no doubt about it. We are not where we want to be just now, but we are going in the right direction.
“The way the club is run from the inside is amazing. I love everyone. I love all the staff, the players, I love the manager and just working with them is an absolute joy.
“Being happy in life it speaks for a lot and I am happy just now. I was more than happy to think about my future.
“Obviously the love that I had at Celtic, I thought you can’t replicate that anywhere but from day one the Arsenal fans have shown me so much love.
“They have been patient with me through injuries. Times when it has not gone well they have stuck with me, even messages on social media and seeing people on the street.
“It is just brilliant and it gives you confidence. I just can’t wait to get fans back in the stadiums now.
