Tyson Fury sends DM to Logan Paul with ambitious two-fight offer

Logan Paul has claimed Tyson Fury wants to fight the YouTube star – with their respective brothers facing off on the undercard.

World heavyweight champion Fury has been angling for a bout between his Love Island star brother Tommy and YouTube star Jake Paul.

And according to Logan, Fury was willing to step in the ring himself to make it happen.

Speaking at a media day ahead of his upcoming exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather, Paul said: “One boxer I don’t want to fight? Tyson Fury.

“Tyson pitched me this idea, he sent me a DM and was like ‘yo, Jake could fight Tommy and you could fight me’, I was like ‘pass’!”

The elder Paul would be no match for the undefeated heavyweight champion Fury, but he is also seen as a wise choice for this weekend’s opponent Mayweather.

Bookmakers are giving the YouTuber virtually no chance against 50-0 Mayweather, despite a 30lb weight discrepancy in favour of Paul.

But the YouTube star is confident he will be able to catch Mayweather, who went undefeated for two decades with a resume that included Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

“There’s a moment that goes through every fighter’s mind,” Paul explained of his punching power. “Everyone we spar, everyone Jake’s beat. When we hit them, they realise, ‘Oh, he might not just do YouTube. This guy really put his heart and soul in this.’

“I hit hard. I think you’re going to see Floyd’s eyes light up, the first time I hit him.

And despite criticism and concerns that the fight could tarnish his glittering legacy, Mayweather said: “”My strategy is just to be away from boxing, whereas other fighters that’s in boxing right now, the so called top fighters, they have to fight.

“Fighters likes Manny Pacquiao, he has to fight. I don’t have to fight. I’m doing what I want to do, because this is what I want to do.”

The bout will take place over eight three minute rounds, with each fighter wearing 10oz gloves, following a late change in agreement from both camps.

A knockout will be permitted at the discretion of the referee, but if it goes the distance, no winner will be declared due to there being no judges at ringside.

And should Paul pull off the upset victory, it would go down as one of the biggest shocks in the history of combat sports given their respective experience.

Even with the limited training camp which Mayweather has put in, it seems unlikely that winless Paul, who lost his pro debut in 2019, will have what it takes to defeat the boxing great.

“There is a difference between YouTube boxing and elite boxing – you guys will see the difference,” Mayweather told Sky Sports yesterday.

“He’s banking on his height, he’s banking on his reach. So we’ll just see – I have a trained a little bit, here and there, not every day. But I don’t have to.”
