Diaz has one fight left on his UFC deal and says the promotion have approached him about a fight with Chimaev, but he doesn’t want to accept it
UFC fan-favourite Nate Diaz has dismissed a fight with surging welterweight Khamzat Chimaev and told him to fight “new people” instead.
Chimaev is currently ranked at No.11 in the UFC welterweight rankings and has amassed four wins in the promotion since making his debut last year.
He had a successful 2020 campaign after setting records for the fastest consecutive wins and fastest three-fight winning streak in modern UFC history.
Diaz – who has just one fight left on his current UFC deal – is planning to compete against a “top five” welterweight fighter at UFC 270 on January 22.
And the Stockton native has urged Chimaev to fight his teammate Nick Maximov instead.
“They’re coming at me with [Chimaev], and I’m like, ‘Hold on, don’t disrespect me like that, trying to offer me a fight with a rookie,’” Diaz told TMZ.
“I’m cool, you got four fights in the UFC. Don’t even talk my name. There’s levels to this.
“Hey Khamzat, if you in there, don’t be a b****, my boy’s (Maximov) right here, fight him,”
“Anybody in the higher level even playing along to this Khamzat sh*t, you’re a b****, too, taking that s***. You’re a new rookie – deal with new people.”
Diaz returned to the UFC for the first time in 18 months earlier this year when – despite a late fightback – he was outpointed by top contender Leon Edwards.
Chimaev submitted Li Jingliang in the first round at UFC 267 in October, it was his first fight in over a year after battling lingering symptoms of Covid-19.
And Chimaev responded to Diaz’s comments by labelling him a “fake gangster”.
He wrote on Twitter : “You fake gangster (Nate Diaz) and I don’t care who to fight I’m coming for everybody, where are you all the gangsters and kings?

“I’m here to kill everyone I’m the king here I’m a gangster here.
“Say hello to your older brother, tell him not to be afraid of me, I don’t beat old people, he knows what I mean, in Vegas I just wanted to say hello well, poor man ran away.”
Chimaev has also called for fights with Georges St-Pierre, Brock Lesnar and Colby Covington this week on social media.
And UFC boss Dana White said nobody on the roster wants to face Chimaev whilst also teasing some fight news for the Chechen.
“We’re working on something for him. Hopefully this week, we’ll have an opponent for him. Nobody wants to fight this guy,” he told Jim Rome.
“Everybody wants to get out on social media and say this or say that. But when it really comes down to it, nobody’s trying to fight Khamzat Chimaev.”
