Varane’s lucrative contract offer as Man Utd ‘blow Real Madrid out the water’

Raphael Varane will land a lucrative pay rise at Manchester United if he completes a transfer from Real Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to make Varane his second marquee signing of the summer after a deal was reached with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho.

The France World Cup winner has been identified as an ideal central defensive partner for club captain Harry Maguire.

And talks are already underway between Real and United as Solskjaer aims to get his business done efficiently in this summer’s transfer window.

The Mirror understands both clubs are confident a deal can be reached for the 28-year-old.

Raphael Varane is a prime target for Manchester United

Varane is currently on holiday as France’s Euro 2020 campaign ended prematurely after the shock last-16 exit to Switzerland.

But when he returns, he is expected to leave Real in pursuit of a new challenge and Old Trafford now appears his likely destination.

A five-year deal in principal has been agreed between United and the Varane’s representatives, with just a fee to be agreed between the two clubs.

Varane’s contract at Real expires next summer so there is an acceptance that he will have to be sold this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed.

And according to Spanish publication Sport, United are willing to offer the Frenchman a bumper €12m (£10.2m) contract.

The contract would blow Real out of the water, with Los Blancos only said to be prepared to raise his yearly salary from €5m to €7m.

It is claimed that Varane has been left frustrated by Real’s reluctance to increase their offer, especially as they have already guaranteed new signing David Alaba €12m-per-year.

He is now set to be the second high-profile defensive exit this summer after Sergio Ramos completed his move to PSG.

Meanwhile, Madrid have also offered Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr to United as Perez looks to balance the books at the Bernabeu.

Real have made Ramos’ new teammate Kylian Mbappe their top summer target and are willing to sell star players to make a sensational transfer plausible.

Vinicius Jr, 21, has been made available for £68m, three years after signing from Flamengo in a £36m deal.

United are interested in the player, but would only pursue a loan deal rather than a permanent switch.
