Vieira: We are really excited by Olise but we must give him time at Palace

atrick Vieira says there is more to come from teenage star Michael Olise after he scored his first goal for Crystal Palace in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester.

Olise, who signed from Reading for £8million during the summer, was one of two substitutes to score as the Eagles came from two goals down to take a point.

Jeffrey Schlupp bagged the leveller within a minute of his introduction and could have scored a winner with a better touch, but it was Olise who got Palace on the right track after replacing Jordan Ayew eight minutes into the second half.

The 19-year-old arrived at Palace with a back injury and will take his time to settle, but Vieira says there is plenty of excitement around the attacking midfielder at Selhurst Park.

“I think we are all really excited with his talent,” said the Frenchman. “We have to understand that he will take time to be a Premier League player.

“He is working well and hard and in a good football club where we support him to improve himself. He is doing well in training, he can score goals and he showed that.

“We have to keep supporting him to keep developing himself. It is a long season so he will definitely play some games, we have to give him time.

“He had a long injury and is not at his best yet. He will be a really important player for us.”

Vieira was quick to deflect the credit for his inspired substitutions and instead hailed the character of his squad to claim a point.

“All the credit goes to the players,” he said. “For them to score the goals that is what we needed and what we wanted, I was really pleased with the effort they gave to the team.

“I think that shows the character and the togetherness as well, the two coming from the bench and bringing something for the team.”
