The Champions League continues tonight for the second night of the opening round of fixtures of the brand new league phase, which sees Manchester City take on Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium in a repeat of the 2023 final.
Pep Guardiola’s side famously won on that night in Istanbul for the English side to be crowned champions of Europe for the first time in their history, while also completing a historic treble.
The four-time defending English champions have won all five of their matches so far this season, and take on an Inter Milan side fresh from winning last season’s Serie A title but are yet to win a game away from home so far this term.
Elsewhere on the continent, last season’s semi finalists PSG will be looking to continue their perfect start to the new season with a home win against last season’s surprise package in La Liga, Girona.
The Catalan side will be taking part in their first ever European match tonight in Paris, having finished third in Spain last season, going toe-to-toe in the title race with Real Madrid for much of the campaign.
Last season’s beaten finalists Borussia Dortmund will also return to European action tonight in Belgium with a match against Club Brugge.
Dortmund, now managed by Nuri Sahin have started the season well with three wins and a draw from his opening four games in charge, and will take on a Club Brugge side who have won only four of their eight matches this season.
In the Carabao Cup, Tottenham will be desperate to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row culminating in a hugely disappointing home North London Derby defeat on the weekend.
They take on a Coventry side yet to get firing in the Championship this season having won just one of their five league outings so far.
An all Premier League clash also takes place in the cup with Brighton hosting a Wolves side who have only picked up one point from their opening four games of the season and sit 19th in the Premier League table.
The Seagulls, meanwhile are unbeaten in their opening five games of this season, with three wins leaving them currently in sixth place in the league standings.
