West Ham players ‘devastated’ after Arsenal collapse, admits Moyes

avid Moyes says West Ham showed that they can compete with the top sides in the Premier League, but admitted his players were left “devastated” after letting go a 3-0 lead against Arsenal.

Having been so tight at the back this season, it was surprising to see the Hammers collapse and sit off – allowing Arsenal to turn the game around and rescue a point.

West Ham are just two points off fourth-placed Chelsea but this was their game in hand on the Blues and they missed the chance to move level with them.

Moyes says the first half an hour shows that his side can compete with the bigger sides this season, and was also critical of referee Jonathan Moss.

“It was a really good game, tough, lots of goals,” Moyes told Sky Sports. “We played very well especially in the opening 30 minutes and unfortunately we gave them a goal before half time, which gave Arsenal a foot up.

“There was a lot of frustration throughout the game about the decisions, but that’s the way football goes sometimes.

“We played very well for long periods, Arsenal played well but are in good form, it wasn’t a great result after going 3-0 up but we showed we are up there competing with the best teams.

“It has been a long time since we finished above Arsenal, we have done our best to make sure they can’t catch us. Now we want more, I’m greedy and they are devastated in the dressing room at not taking three points.”
