Why Sancho won’t be making his Manchester United debut against QPR

Manchester United have got their man.

Yesterday saw Jadon Sancho finally unveiled as a United player after his £73million switch from Borussia Dortmund.

The winger had long been on the club’s radar following efforts to sign him last summer and he has now signed a five-year deal with the option of another season.

The 21-year-old said he was “honoured” to join the Red Devils as they set about winning a first trophy since the Europa League in 2017.

The deal had been in the pipeline for some time, but United were said to be relaxed about the wait and of course Sancho’s participation in the Euros delayed the deal further.

Giddy United fans are now looking forward to seeing their new man in action.

United travel to Championship side QPR today and some fans on social media are asking if he will be given a debut against Mark Warburton’s side.

Sadly, that won’t be the case.

Despite being officially unveiled yesterday and visiting United’s Carrington training facility, Sancho is still technically on holiday.

He was recently pictured with future club teammate Marcus Rashford enjoying a trip away and the pair, along with fellow England stars Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, are not due to return to United until next week.

All four players helped England reach the final of Euro 2020, which was on July 11. Sancho, who has been handed the number 25 shirt, is still expected to figure in United’s pre-season schedule.

After today’s game they face Brentford on Wednesday and Preston next Saturday. There is a possibility Sancho and his Three Lions’ colleagues could be involved in one or both of those games.

Their final warm-up game is against Everton on August 7 – a week before the season opener with Leeds.
