Georginio Wijnaldum has put pressure on Liverpool to update the world on his situation amid the contract stand-off at Anfield.
Mirror Sport revealed Wijnaldum’s plans to snub Liverpool’s last-ditch attempt to keep him at the club in favour of a move to Barcelona.
Wijnaldum was recently asked whether there is an update on his current situation at Liverpool, and responded on Sky Sports: “No. There is no update yet.
“I also think I am not the one who should give the update, the club should. If there will be an update the club will give it.”
Barcelona have an historic Dutch connection with Johan Cruyff, Frank Rijkaard and current boss Ronald Koeman icons in Catalonia.
Dutch sources confirmed the Liverpool midfielder’s stance, saying: “Barcelona has always been a big draw for him. It’s a similar situation to when Gareth Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid in that it is his ultimate destination.”
Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy recently advised the Reds to let Wijnaldum go if his heart is no longer in it, as he clearly wants to represent Barcelona.
“I understand it more, away from growing up as a Liverpool fan and Liverpool player in this kind of bubble where you’d think, ‘Why would he want to leave Liverpool? They won the Premier League and Champions League etc.'”, Murphy told talkSPORT.
“He’s 30 years old, the manager of Barcelona was his national team manager, who he gets on with really, really well. We don’t know his aspirations and dreams as a young player.”
