“Hopefully things will get better” – Arteta on Chelsea defeat

Willian is set to leave Arsenal, but he has made sure he has stuck the boot in on the way out.

The winger is set to return to Brazil as Corinthians look to agree a deal with the Gunners for the former Chelsea man.

Arsenal will reportedly let him leave for free as they look to get his £190k-a-week wages off their books with all parties keen to reach an agreement.

Mikel Arteta is looking to offload several fringe players who have misfired before the transfer window closes in a week’s time and Willian is at the top of the list.

The Brazilian struggled in his debut season last term after leaving Stamford Bridge as a free agent and is not a part of Arteta’s plans as he invests in the younger core at the club.

It’s been difficult to find a team that could come close to matching his astronomical salary, but it seems Corinthians are willing to take him off Arsenal’s hands.

But Willian has left a parting shot aimed at the north London club as he aimed a couple of sly digs on social media.

At the weekend, he posted a cryptic picture on his Instagram story of a quote, attributed to Denzel Washington, which read: “You will never be critcised by someone who is doing more than you.

“You will only be criticised by someone doing less than you. Remember that.”

Willian then uploaded a picture of him watching Corinthian’s league clash with Athletico PR as they claimed a 1-0 away victory, hinting where his next destination could be.

He then angered fans by ‘liking’ a post about Chelse’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on the Blues’ official Instagram page.

Willian’s time on the pitch for Arsenal will not be remembered fondly and now it seems there is going to be a bitter end to his spell at the Emirates as he looks set to return to his homeland.
