Winks told he will not be allowed to leave Tottenham in January by Mourinho

Harry Winks has been told he will not be allowed to leave Tottenham in January.

Jose Mourinho admitted Winks has been in to see him to discuss his future at the club after being frozen out of the Spurs first team.

England midfielder Winks did not even make the bench at Crystal Palace on Sunday and the 24-year-old is concerned that it could cost him his place at next summer’s Euros.

There is strong interest from Spain in a potential switch while Everton have also been linked with a loan move should Winks become available to help get him game time.

But Tottenham boss Mourinho shut down the chance of Winks leaving, by insisting: “In relation to Winks on loan in January, no way.”

Mourinho insists Winks is going nowhere in January

Winks has been left deeply frustrated by his lack of chances under Mourinho even though he played regularly when the Portuguese first took charge.

Mourinho confirmed that Winks had knocked on his office door to discuss his situation and the Spurs boss seemed surprised when asked whether he had been to see him.

“If he spoke with me? Why do you ask that? Because you know? Are you asking for me to confirm?” said Mourinho.

“Ahh, so you know! You know, yes! Yes, he came to me. But not just him. Many players come to see me.

“I have my office on the first floor but I also have a little space on the ground floor next to the players’ dressing-room where I used to be before and after the training session to make it easier for them.

“So it’s so easy for them just to go around the corner and to speak with me. So yes Winks came to speak with me. Yes.”

It is another big name to get frustrated under Mourinho this season as Dele Alli also finds himself on the fringes and Paris Saint Germain tried twice in the summer to sign him on loan but Spurs also blocked his departure.
