Wolves look at Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca as Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor

Wolves are looking at Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement.

But Nuno could yet end up staying in the Premier League with Spurs if they continue to struggle to replace Jose Mourinho.

Nuno,47, is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes who has been pushing his client for the Tottenham job.

He has moved to hot favourite for the post after Erik ten Hag signed a new deal at Ajax and Julian Nagelsmann opted for Bayern Munich.

Nuno will be available this summer after confirmation his four-year reign at Wolves is ending this month by mutual agreement.

He will take charge of Wanderers for the final time on Sunday at home to Manchester United.

Wolves are considering Paulo Fonseca as the successor to Nuno Espirito Santo

He can expect a warm send-off after taking Wolves from the Championship into the top-flight and into the Europa League quarter-finals last year.

But Wolves’ ambitious, wealthy owners Fosun want to shake up the club for next season with a new boss and Fonseca is a target.

Fonseca,48, is leaving Roma after two seasons in which he guided them to fifth and seventh, including into the Europa League semi-finals this term.

Mendes, whose agency Gestifute is partly owned by Fosun through a subsidiary, has arranged for Mourinho to replace Fonseca on a three-year deal.

Former Benfica manager Bruno Lage,45,is another potential candidate for the Molineux job to succeed Nuno.

Nuno said: “Since the first day we arrived , our ambition was to make a positive change and push this football club forward, and I am proud to say that we did that every single day.

“We achieved our goals, we did it with passion and we did it together.

“Sunday will be a very emotional day but I am so happy that the fans will be back in Molineux and we can share one last special moment together, as one pack.”
