World Athletics Championships 2022: How to watch for FREE live on TV


Ten days of action gets underway today, with Athing Mu, Dina Asher-Smith and Mondo Duplantis among those looking to secure glory on the world stage.

On the first day of competition, Allyson Felix goes in the mixed 4x400m relay. The heats begin at 7:45pm BST, with the final run as the final event of the day at 3:50am on Saturday morning. Felix is retiring at the end of the 2022 season, so this is her last opportunity to add to her tally of 13 World Championships gold medals.

Laura Muir also gets her 1500m campaign underway with the heats on the opening day, while the men’s 100m also begins with the preliminary round and heats.

World Athletics Championships date, UK start time and venue

The 2022 UK Athletics Championship takes place from Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 24.

The meeting will be held in the USA at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Action on the first day begins with the men’s hammer throw at 5:05pm BST.

How to watch the World Athletics Championships

TV channel: Live coverage of the first day of action will be shown live across the BBC channels, with coverage also available on the BBC Sport website and app.

Day 1 (Friday 15th):

6pm-7:15pm BST: BBC Two

7:15pm-9pm: BBC Four

9pm-1am: BBC Red Button

1am-4:25am (Saturday morning): BBC One
