A luxury hotel chain has decided that it’s time for the old check-in and check-out schedules to clock off.
The Peninsula group, from January 2021, will allow guests to check-in at 6am and check-out at 10pm – at no extra cost.
This amounts to almost an extra day for free, though it’s not being marketed like that. The hotel calls the game-changing offer ‘Peninsula Time’.

‘Especially now that travel has become somewhat more challenging, we understand that extra time is one of the most meaningful gifts we can provide to our guests,’ said Gareth Roberts, Group Director of Brand and Operations Support for The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels.
‘By letting guests arrive earlier and stay longer, we hope to provide them with greater peace of mind – and an even more personalised experience.’
There is news on the amenity front, too.
The hotel has launched a new collection of scented room amenities, ‘custom-created by local fragrance curators to embody the essences of each Peninsula locale’.

Peninsula said: ‘The amenities – shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body milk, and soap – offer guests a delightful sensory immersion in their hotel’s destination. These products are also made with natural ingredients and come in recyclable aluminium packaging.’
Additionally, amenities such as shower caps, toothbrushes, and razors, which formerly incorporated petroleum-based plastics, have been replaced with more ecologically minded alternatives made from corn starch, wheat, wood and recycled metal, Peninsula said.
It added: ‘Inner plastic wrappings in packaging have also been eliminated. Together, these sustainability improvements have allowed the new bespoke collection to be 99.9 per cent free of single-use petroleum plastics.’
Also new for January 2021, from the first of the month, is a more flexible cancellation policy across all properties. There will be a standardised cancellation time of 3pm, local time, one day prior to arrival; an early bird booking offer that allows guests to change reservations without penalty for up to 12 months from the original booking date and waived cancellation fees for group and banqueting bookings made through June 30, 2021 (regardless of the event date), when rescheduling the event up to 12 months from the original event date.
Also beginning on January 1 is a guarantee for guests who book a room or suite directly through peninsula.com that they will be able to select and confirm a connecting room or suite at the time of the booking, making it easier to share space with friends and family.
Peninsula hotels can be found in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Paris, Bangkok and Manila.
