Baby P’s mother Tracey Connelly has received a priority Covid jab because she is classed as a ‘vulnerable’ inmate due to weighing over 20 stone.

The 39-year-old was given her first of the jabs last week after being called up by staff at HMP Low Newton in County Durham where she is serving an indefinite sentence.

A source told The Sun: ‘She was on the vulnerable list so she’s had the jab.

‘There’s no picking and choosing from the jail. She’s eligible so there you are. But she’s certainly not as vulnerable as the child who died in her care.’

The mother admitted the offence and was jailed for a minimum of five years and then freed on licence in 2013 but later recalled to prison in 2015 after she had been sending indecent images of herself to perverts obsessed with her notoriety.

The Parole Board considered her case for a third time in November 2019, following previous reviews in 2015 and 2017, and refused to either release her or move her to an open prison.

Peter had suffered more than 50 injuries – despite being on the at-risk register and receiving 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals over eight months.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman last month insisted there was no question of prisoners receiving the jab before other groups in society.

‘That is obviously not the case and is not true,’ the spokesman said. ‘Prisoners won’t be prioritised for vaccines.

‘They are vaccinated at the same time as the general public in line with the JCVI prioritisation groups, no quicker than that.’

It is not yet known when Connelly will next be eligible for a review of her case.

She was jailed with her boyfriend Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen, who were convicted at trial of the same offence.

A series of reviews identified missed opportunities when officials could have saved the toddler’s life if they had acted properly on the warning signs.
