BBC halts live radio broadcasts and goes off air after fire alarm sounds in London studio

BBC Radio 4’s Today programme was dramatically forced off air this morning after New Broadcasting House in London was evacuated following a fire alarm.

Staff were allowed back into the building around ten minutes after the alarm first sounded, although could have gone to the station’s back-up studio in Westminster.

While the radio station was off-air, a pre-recorded message was played apologising for ‘disruption’ and ‘problems’, before a documentary about the history of the T-shirt.
