Boy, 17, is charged with murder over Halloween stabbing of a man, 22, in Reading

  • Boy, 17,  charged with murder of 22-year-old man in Reading on Sunday
  • He was arrested on Wednesday evening and charged with three offences
  • Police confirmed the death of Reece Heffernan, from Tilehurst in the stabbing 
  • The boy will appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 


A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder over the Halloween stabbing of a 22-year-old man in Reading. 

Reece Heffernan, from Tilehurst, has been confirmed as the stabbing victim by  police.

A post-mortem concluded the cause of death to be a stab wound to his chest.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said the 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to his age, was arrested on Wednesday evening and subsequently charged with one count of murder, one count of perverting the course of justice and one count of possession of bladed article.

He is due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

It comes after two men were charged as part of the investigation.

Hamzah Ahmed, 18, of Reading, has been charged with murder, while 23-year-old Umer Arshad, from Wokingham, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

The force added a 29-year-old man and two 19-year-old men, all from Reading, who were arrested on suspicion of murder have since been released under investigation.
