From a knighthood to worldwide accolades, it’s safe to David Attenborough is not short of an honour or two.

And another one has just been added to his collection after he was voted the owner of Britain’s Best Voice.

The 94-year-old, whose wildlife work has made him a national treasure, won more than a quarter of the votes in a poll with the fellow ‘posh’ voice of Stephen Fry in second place and Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley coming third.

Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Trevor McDonald completed the top five, followed by Dame Judi Dench, Dame Helen Mirren and Brian Blessed.

Former Doctor Who David Tennant’s Scottish lilt and the distinctive London accent of Luther’s Idris Elba rounded off the top ten in the survey of 2,000 adults commissioned by Virgin Media.

The Irish accent was voted the most attractive – despite no Irish celebrities making it into the top ten – while Brummie tones were deemed the most boring.

He has since been eclipsed by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint who broke records when he joined last month to introduce his daughter Wednesday.
