This week we’re getting festival ready for the feast of outdoor events during the summer months, and whether your passion is music, food or something more literary, you’ll want to dress the part. A look where style, comfort and practicality meet is key, so planning every element is important. For many, a trusty trainer is a great go-to but don’t eschew the wedge sandal – it’ll add polish (and height) to your chosen outfit.

  1. Wear layers. You’ll need a jacket that is lined to stave off the chill. Why not try a roomy, neutral longline cardigan or jumper in a bright pop of colour instead?
  2.  Keep possessions to a minimum and use a bag that can easily convert to a crossbody when you get tired (like this from Manu Atelier).
  3. A wedge will work with everything from summer dresses and midi skirts to wide-leg trousers. Opt for a neutral hue that will go with your entire summer wardrobe.
  4. A stylish pair of sunglasses with 100 per cent UV protection is a handbag must.
  5. Embrace the season’s retro floral prints – faded tones are an easy entry point to the trend. These are cut in a high-waisted, comfortable style.

Other wedges to check out include FitFlop’s indisputably comfortable Eloise sandals, £130, fitflop.com or Dune London’s Kelisa, £80, dunelondon.com

Do

Remember that wedges, originally an orthopaedic aid, support the whole foot, so find a style you love and stability and comfort will be yours.

Don’t

Wear anything that is too tight – you’ll regret skinny jeans, snug-fitting underwear or uncomfortable shoes when you’re out in the elements all day.
