Glamorous racegoers refuse to let the rainy weather dampen their spirits at Epsom Ladies Day

Glamorous female racegoers didn’t let the rainy weather conditions stop them from putting their best fashion foot forward as they arrived for Ladies’ Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey.

Despite the drizzly weather, thousands of women brought the sunshine with their finest summery frocks and elaborate hats as they descended on the racecourse to kickstart the weekend with a day of festivities.

With umbrellas in hand, many refused to let the rain dampen their spirits and were seen getting into the party spirit early, with glasses of Pimms and mini bottles of Moet Champage flowing.

Women in flirty frocks and statement jumpsuits arrived in their dozens for the event – a mainstay in Britain’s racing and social calendar.

Luckily, most had come prepared with umbrellas

The racecourse was turned into a sea of brollies as they were all unfurled

Some braved the downpour in bare legs and open toe heels while trying desperately to keep their hair dry by taking cover underneath an umbrella

Elaborate headwear was the order of the day for many, with oversized hats and flamboyant fascinators adorned with feathers, flowers and frills spotted in the enclosure.

This year the The Style Awards is open to both males and females, and seeks out to find the very best dressed racegoers on the course.

Among the top prizes include a year’s supply of dresses from Chi Chi London, a year’s supply of shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt, Jeroboam of Moët & Chandon and an exclusive Jessica Rea Headpiece, plus a personal styling consultation.

It is therefore of little surprise racegoers were keen to pull out all the stops when it came to their looks, pushing the boundaries with outfits that were both creative and elegant.

Some got inventive with alternatives to umbrellas

Popular cold-shoulder and strappy dress styles allowed many women to flash a hint of skin without putting too much on display.

In a nod to the previously sunny weather, many opted for frocks in vibrant hues of pink, yellow and purple and printed with soft floral patterns.

Others channeled one of the season’s other big style trends – head-to-toe neutrals – and donned jumpsuits and dresses in shades of white, putty and beige.
