It’s Star Paws! Owner of a 7st poodle-cross claims he’s often mistaken for Chewbacca

It’s Star Paws! Owner of a 7st poodle-cross which stands at 5ft 3in tall says he’s often mistaken for Chewbacca and admits she had ‘no idea’ the mutt would grow to the size of a ‘small man’

  • Nina Ayling, 27, bought Newfoundland-Poodle cross, Mylo, 2, when he was a pup
  • Within months the enormous hound had outgrown the rest of his litter by far
  • Mylo now stands as tall as Nina at 5ft 3in and weighs an incredible 45kg
  • Nina, of Shoreham by Sea, says people call him Star Wars character Chewbacca

The owner of a 7st dog who gets mistaken for Chewbacca has admitted she had ‘no idea’ her cross-breed would grow to the size of a ‘small man’.

Nina Ayling, 27, bought her Newfoundland-Poodle cross Mylo, two, when he was just a six-week-old puppy, but within months the huge hound had outgrown the rest of his litter and now stands as tall as Nina at 5ft 3in and weighs an incredible 7st.

The admin worker from Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, says people stop and stare whenever she takes Mylo for a walk, with the mutt often getting confused for Star Wars‘ Chewbacca or ‘a man in a bear suit’ when he leans over the bar for a pint or sits at the dinner table.

Nina said: ‘We had absolutely no idea that he would get so big. We had seen the breeder’s previous litter of the same cross-breed and none of them grew to the size of Mylo.

‘Everybody loves him and he’s a well-known character down at the local pub where he likes to jump up and lean over the bar.

‘People who have never seen him look absolutely stunned. They mistake him for a man in a bear suit or say they thought it was Chewbacca.

‘We can’t go anywhere without people staring at us or being stopped by people asking us what he is.

‘We even had to make a sign for him to wear saying “I’m a Newfypoo, I’m one years old and I don’t know if I’m going to get any bigger” because people kept asking us.’

But it seems loveable Mylo is blissfully unaware of his size and enjoys nothing more than sitting on someone’s lap or taking a seat at the table with his family.

Nina added: ‘He seems to think he’s a lap dog, he loves sitting on people’s knees and getting stroked.

‘If you stop stroking him he’ll even bat you with his paw to let you know you need to carry on. He’s just a big friendly giant!’

Newfoundland-Poodle cross dogs can measure between 20 to 28 inches tall and grow to weigh up to 10st, but they’re usually between that and 5st in weight.
