Kate Middleton prefers ‘practical Christmas presents’ for children

Kate Middleton prefers ‘practical Christmas presents’ for her children amid worries that ‘tech-savvy’ Prince George and Princess Charlotte have ‘too much screen time’, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 39, are currently living at their London residence of Kensington Palace with their children Prince George, seven, and Princess Charlotte, six, as well as two-year-old son Prince Louis

Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl told Okay! magazine that Kate and William are ‘thinking more carefully’ about present buying for their children, and won’t be buying anything ‘extravagant.’

She explained: ‘George enjoys his iPad at school, both he and Charlotte are quite tech-savvy and, like most children, there probably are technical gadgets and such like on their wish list.

‘If it is something that happens to be a computer game or something like that then they are cautious of screen time so it could be a more practical gift.’

Meanwhile she also revealed how the couple are more inclined to buy the children something which can be ‘used outdoors’ or ‘last forever’.

It’s previously been revealed that Kate ‘is very strict on screen time’ and ‘won’t allow Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis their own devices’.

Katie Nicholl told Okay! magazine that the Duchess, is keen to encourage creativity in her children, and said they aren’t permitted their own mobiles or tablets.

She explained: ‘Kate is usually very strict on screen time and keeps it to a minimum.’

Katie added: ‘They’ve got climbing frames, swings and a pond, and each of the children are in charge of their own little patch of the kitchen garden.’

Meanwhile Prince Louis is most likely to be found playing outdoors, with Katie revealing that he was ‘happiest when exploring the grounds’ of the family’s Norfolk home of Anmer.

A source previously told US weekly that the Duke and Duchess had ‘banned iPads’ in their home, commenting that they were ‘adult-toys’ and not for children.

Kate believes that spending time outdoors plays a pivotal role in children’s future health and happiness, building foundations that last through childhood and over a lifetime – and is keen to find ways to encourage this.

She undertook several projects in 2019 to encourage children to explore the outdoors, including her Back to Nature garden for the Chelsea Flower Show which was inspired by time she spent with her own brood in the garden.

Unveiling the garden last year, she said Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were actively involved in collecting twigs, logs and moss from around Anmer Hall for the display.

Katie’s latest comments come as Carole Middleton revealed that she has a ‘very silly Christmas’ in store for her grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
