A member of Sam Smith’s entourage who abused a fan of the singer as she attempted to film him is a Brexit whistle blower and activist who rails against political corruption, MailOnline can reveal.

Shahmir Sanni, 27, was seen telling the female fan to ‘Shut the f**k up, you dumb b***h,’ as she filmed herself running up to the singer and a group of friends on Oxford Street and shouting: ‘Sam Smith, I love you.’

Mr Sanni hit the headlines in 2018 after exposing shady donations at the Vote Leave campaign where he was a volunteer, claiming that it had breached strict electoral spending limits.

He previously worked at the Taxpayers Alliance as its digital campaign manager but recently, has become a firm part of the London social scene because of his friendship with Sam Smith, attending glitzy parties and red carpet events.

It was also reported in 2020 that the two were dating.

Mr Sanni, who lives in central London, admitted to MailOnline that he was the man seen abusing the girl in the video which has since gone viral with over one million views on Tik Tok.

He added: ‘You’ve outed me, and I don’t want to speak to you.’

Following his tirade last week, the young female fan was seen saying: ‘What the actual f**k? I just wanted to say hi.’

In another clip, another person appeared to tell her to ‘shut up’ as she replied: ‘Don’t tell me to shut up, I love you Sam Smith’.

The star did not appear to respond to the girl but was seen in the background of the video with a dark moustache.

Mr Sanni graduated with an economics degree from the University of East Anglia in 2016.

He was born in Pakistan but came to Britain more than a decade ago with his mother, who was a teacher in the country and two sisters.

The family settled in Solihull, where they still live.

His whistleblowing on funding by the Vote Leave Campaign led to an Electoral Commission inquiry, which fined it £61,000.

The matter was also referred to the police for further investigation, which were eventually closed last year.

Mr Sanni revealed that he was part of a section within Vote Leave focused on social media campaigning that received £675,000 of funding as a way of swerving strict spending limits.

Speaking about his whistleblowing, he said in a 2018 interview: ‘It hasn’t been fun. If I had known the consequences, if I had known it would be this bad in terms of the abuse, the vitriol… I probably wouldn’t have come forward.’

Mr Saani also regularly takes to social media to complain about political corruption and the Conservative Party.

In one video he fumes: ‘If this corruption is not stopped then chaos ensues but more importantly the destruction of everything that Britain holds dearest; the NHS; public broadcasting; welfare.

‘The very institutions that make Britain a great country.

‘The Conservative extremism and their plan is to destroy all that and they will.’

Sam Smith’s representatives declined to comment on the video when approached by MailOnline.
