Mum catches friend breastfeeding her newborn twice

Mum distraught after catching her ‘close friend’ breastfeeding her newborn twice: ‘I was so stressed I felt like crying’

  • Mum Afiqah Hasanah caught friend breastfeeding her newborn
  • The friend’s excuse was the ‘baby was crying’

A mum was mortified after finding out her friend breastfed her newborn without her permission.

Afiqah Hasanah, from Malaysia, had her hands full at a family event so she turned to her friend for help and was certain her son Haider would be cared for.

However, she was left very unimpressed by how she cared for him.

‘I was busy carrying things, and when I arrived, she asked me for Haider, so I just gave him [to her] because she was someone close to me,’ the mum said in a video.

‘Suddenly while I was carrying those things, I saw that she was, like, doing something at the back in an open hall.’

‘Turns out, she was breastfeeding Haider.’

‘Which mother can accept her baby being directly breastfed by someone else while the mother herself has breastmilk?’ she said.

In the emotional video the mum appeared to be on the verge of tears and she said: ‘I didn’t expect that she could do such a thing.’

‘I was so stressed I felt like crying.. this has destroyed my trust in people. How long will I be haunted by this?’

However, even after confronting her ‘close friend’, Afiqah’s mum caught the woman doing the deed a second time.

‘Now, I’m having a tough time shaking it off my mind,’ she said.

The video has since exceeded 2.9million views, receiving more than 261,000 likes, and many were sympathetic towards the mum.

‘How can someone even do that without thinking!? It’s so frustrating to hear this,’ one person commented.

‘New fear unlocked,’ one mum said, another added: ‘Got to be careful with people like that. Get ready to keep the child away whenever she’s around.’

Another woman a similar thing happened to her, but her own sister breastfed her baby.

The dangers of informal milk sharing:

The AAP does not encourage using informally shared breast milk, citing the risks of spreading disease.

It can also expose an infant to medications, alcohol, drugs, or other contaminants. According to the AAP, women who cannot produce enough breast milk can supplement with formula or use donor milk that comes from a milk bank.

‘Informal milk sharing is becoming increasingly popular and widespread,’ said Nikita Sood, a researcher at Cohen Children’s Medical Center/Northwell Health in New York.

‘It is therefore crucial that physicians become aware of this practice and the associated risks so that they can educate patients and address this growing concern.’
