Police raid Unite union HQ in London as officers are seen leaving with files, paper and a computer during probe into member of staff

Police have raided the Unite union’s headquarters in London – with up to 20 officers leaving with boxes of files, paper and a computer, it was reported today.

Unite said an unnamed employee was under criminal investigation and their office at the union’s base in Holborn was searched by detectives under warrant.

Two police vans and a number of unmarked police cars were involved in yesterday’s operation which was led by South Wales Police, reported Sky News.

A Unite spokesman said today: ‘A Unite employee is subject to a criminal investigation by the police. On Wednesday 6th April, the employee’s office at Unite HQ, in Holborn London, was accessed and searched by the police under warrant.’

Unite was formed in 2007 when the Transport and General Workers’ Union merged with Amicus, and it is Britain’s second biggest union with 1.24million members.
