Bungling builders were mocked after benches that should have enjoyed a river view were installed facing a brick wall.

Now the contractors are to turn all the seats around, at no extra cost.

The benches, set in concrete at a new development in Andover, Hampshire, face a 1960s wall belonging to a Wilko store.

Mr North said residents had been in touch in recent days, with one joking: ‘Perhaps they were going to get someone to paint a riverside scene on Wilko’s wall.’ 

Another added: ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers.’
