A 32-year-old man accused of raping an elderly woman after allegedly breaking into her home in the city last week was today remanded in custody pending a crown court appearance next month.
Brady Hickman appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court via video link wearing a grey top after being arrested in Stroud yesterday morning.
The court heard that the woman, whose is classed as vulnerable with mobility issues, activated her lifeline personal alarm to report she had been raped by an intruder.
Hickman was told he is charged with rape on November 11, and two offences of sexual assault by penetration on the same occasion. He did not enter any pleas.

District Judge Nicholas Wattam said that the rape charge can only be dealt with at Gloucester Crown Court and he committed the case there for a first hearing on December 17, 2021.
The judge remanded Hickman in custody until that date.
