Teenage girl, 17, is killed in car crash in Derbyshire as injured women driver, 19, is arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A 17-year-old girl has died following a car crash in Derbyshire during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving one car, a red Seat Leon, on the A514 near to the junction of Breach Lane in Melbourne at 12.30am.  

The teenage girl, believed to be a passenger in the vehicle, was found at the scene with serious injuries and taken to hospital where she later died. 

A 19-year-old woman, believed to be the driver of the car, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been discharged from hospital into police custody.

Another 17-year-old girl, also thought to have been a passenger, was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries which are not believed to be serious.

The driver of the car also suffered injuries which were not thought to be serious and was taken to hospital for treatment. 

Police are urging witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage which could help with enquiries to come forward.
