The Citroen C4 driver nips in front of Mr Brown’s truck and spot the three pedestrians crossing the road in front of them
One of the men crossing the road is forced to jump back as the Citroen comes to a halt
In the footage, Mr Brown pulled away from traffic lights in his truck.
Despite ‘merge in turn’ markings the car driver overtook him at speed and didn’t see the pedestrians crossing until the last moment.
The pedestrians had decided against using a traffic island to cross the road and were instead standing in a filter lane in the middle of the road.
The car used a right-hand filter lane to speed past the truck before nipping in ahead of the HGV when the driver finally spotted the three pedestrians.
Two of those attempting to cross the road pulled back, one narrowly avoiding being struck by the car which was forced to brake heavily.
Although the driver of the Citroen C4 braked in enough time, he or she did not stop and drove on.
Looking back the incident Mr Brown admitted he should have stopped to allow the group to cross safely.
Sharing the clip online he wrote: ‘Got to overtake the truck any any cost.’
The video has since been viewed over 20,000 times and received more than 200 reactions, comments and shares.
Staffordshire Police said they are aware of the footage and are looking into the incident
One user commented: ‘What an idiot in the car, also what an idiotic place to cross the road – why do people insist on driving like they are on [racing video game] Forza?’
Another said: ‘That would have been at least one fatality!’
A third wrote: ‘These are the type of drivers that are a danger on our roads, if you need to slam on your brakes you are driving too fast.’
A fourth added: ‘That was about as close as anyone wants to come to death!
‘Lucky the one pedestrian stopped the other from a certain death.
‘Way too many people in this world should be confined to public transport.’
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: ‘An officer from the force’s Road Crime Team is reviewing the footage and will contact Mr Brown in due course.’
